SPEAKERS, PLEASE APPROACH THE PODIUM AT THE FRONT OF THE AUDITORIUM WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME. [00:55:02] OUR FIRST SPEAKER TONIGHT IS MR. FRANK GARZA. FRANK GARZA, IS HE HERE? OKAY. WE THOUGHT HE MAY HAVE A CONFLICT AS WELL. OUR SECOND SPEAKER TONIGHT IS MR. EWAN BLACKMAN. GOOD EVENING. BOARD OF TRUSTEES. PRESIDENT HARRIS, SUPERINTENDENT. BRANUM AND ESTEEMED EMPLOYEES. JABULANI OR IN ISIZULU. SING FOR JOY. HAPPINESS. I WANT TO TALK A LITTLE ON UNSUNG HEROES. TEACHERS FOR SURE. BUT BEFORE I DO THAT, I WANT TO SAY A SHOUT OUT TO THE SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE. I WORK WITH THE SUBCOMMITTEE WITH FOLKS LIKE CO-CHAIR KAREN, AMY, SARAH AND CHRISTEL, FOLKS DOING THE HARD WORK BEHIND THE SCENES TO GET THE THINGS DONE. THE WORK THAT DOESN'T GET RECOGNIZED SOMETIMES BUT MAKES IT THROUGH TO THE TOP. AND A BIG SHOUT OUT TO MY FELLOW COLLEAGUE, THE VENERABLE DIRECTOR EXTRAORDINAIRE KELLY SELLERS, ONE OF THE MOST FUN, OUTGOING PEOPLE THAT I GET TO WORK WITH ON THAT COMMITTEE. THANKS FOR WHAT YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FOR OUR PARENTS. THANK YOU. AND NOW ONTO PTM, PAYING TEACHERS MORE. I WANT TO DO A HAPPY DANCE. I WANT TO SING. I WANT TO SHOUT. BUT MY WIFE WILL TELL YOU, AIN'T NOBODY WANT TO SEE ANY OF THAT. FINALLY ADDRESSING COMPRESSION, TURNING TO RAREFACTION FOR THOSE PHYSICS FRIENDS AMONGST US, A REAL PROPOSAL, A PARADIGM SHIFT. OPTION C NO LONGER WILL A PALTRY $6,700 SEPARATE A ZERO YEAR TEACHER FROM AN EXPERIENCED TEACHER WITH ALMOST THREE DECADES OF WORK. LET THAT SINK IN. NOW IT'LL BE TWO. $20,000. SHOULD YOU VOTE TO SEE TO OPTION C? YES C, OPTION C YES. LET ME SHARE A COUPLE OF COMMENTS FROM SOME RISD TEACHERS TO MYSELF ON THIS PROPOSAL. MY FORMER COLLEAGUE THAT I REFERENCED A FORTNIGHT AGO SAID THAT SHE WILL NO LONGER HAVE TO GO TO A NEIGHBORING ISD, PLANO AND THAT SHE WILL IN FACT STAY HERE MAKING 5000 MORE, NOT NEEDING TO TRANSFER ANYWHERE ELSE. HOW ABOUT THE RISD TEACHER WHO COMES AND THEY WON'T NEED TO GET A SIDE HUSTLE THE SUMMER TO MAKE THEIR BILLS? ANOTHER SAID THAT SHE COULDN'T BELIEVE AND STILL WOULDN'T BELIEVE THAT IT WILL HAPPEN. I HOPE WE PROVE HER WRONG TONIGHT. TEACHER RECRUITMENT, RETENTION AND FINANCIAL STABILITY ARE ALL THE DESIRED OUTCOMES OF THIS BOLD MOVE. SO TO SUPERINTENDENT BRANUM, TO ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT DOCTOR GOODSON. AND OF COURSE, TO THE MAN WHO HAS SPENT ENTIRELY TOO MANY HOURS WORKING ON BUDGET QUESTIONS WITH ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT PATE. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK IN BRINGING THIS FORWARD. YOUR LEADERSHIP IN PTM IS APPRECIATED. IT IS A LIFE CHANGING FOR MANY. TO ALL MY RISD TEACHERS AND FRIENDS. I HOPE THAT WHEN YOU WAKE UP TOMORROW MORNING, YOU CAN SAY JABULANI OR TISHA OR SING FOR JOY. CELEBRATE TEACHERS. THANK YOU AND I HOPE YOU VOTE FOR C. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING IT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU, MR. BLACKMAN. OUR NEXT SPEAKER IS MISS ALICIA. ALICIA HUSEMAN. AND I APOLOGIZE FOR THAT AS MISS HUSEMAN TO THEM. THEY HAVE A PRONUNCIATION. IT'S OKAY NOW. IT'S OKAY, IT'S OKAY. ALL RIGHT. HELLO. MY NAME IS ALICIA HUSEMAN. I'M A FIRST GRADE TEACHER AT MOHAWK ELEMENTARY. I WANT TO POSE A QUESTION FOR ALL OF YOU TO CONSIDER. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THAT YOU SPENT A FULL DAY IN AN ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM? NOT ON A TOUR. NOT TO RECOGNIZE A STAFF MEMBER, BUT TO TRULY EXPERIENCE A TYPICAL DAY AND WHAT IT'S LIKE FOR TODAY'S TEACHER. THIS IS MY 10TH YEAR IN EDUCATION, AND I HAVE NOT ONCE HAD A MEMBER OF THE BOARD VISIT MY CLASSROOM, SO I ASSUME WE ALL KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION. WITH THE PULLOUT ESL PROGRAM GETTING CUT LAST YEAR, AND THE READING AND MATH INTERVENTION TEACHERS GETTING CUT AFTER THIS YEAR. THIS ALL NOW GETS PUT SOLELY ON TO THE TEACHER'S PLATE IN ADDITION TO CLASS SIZES BECOMING LARGER. WITHOUT MORE TIME ADDED TO OUR DAY, HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS WHO REQUIRE THESE SPECIALIZED SERVICES? HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO MEET OUR NORTH STAR GOAL? TEACHERS ARE STRETCHED SO THIN WITH THINGS CONSTANTLY BEING ADDED TO OUR PLATES, IN ADDITION TO THE INCREASINGLY DEMANDING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF TODAY'S STUDENTS. WE DON'T NEED FULL COMPUTER LABS WHEN WE ARE 1 TO 1 WITH IPADS. [01:00:02] WE DON'T NEED AI. WE DON'T NEED UNNECESSARY AMOUNTS OF NEW DYSFUNCTIONAL CLASSROOM FURNITURE. WE NEED TEACHERS AND WE NEED SUPPORT. AMONGST THIS CHAOS THAT WE NOW HAVE NO CONTROL OVER, TEACHERS ARE BEING TOLD NOW TO SPEAK UP TO USE OUR VOICES, BUT WHEN HAS IT EVER BEEN SAFE FOR TEACHERS IN TEXAS TO USE THEIR VOICE UNLESS THEY MISS OUT ON A PROMOTION. GET WRITTEN UP OR GET FORCED TO RESIGN. I'VE WITNESSED IT FIRSTHAND. I UNDERSTAND THAT DISTRICTS MUST ATTRACT NEW TEACHERS TO THIS PROFESSION WITH PAY INCENTIVES. IN FACT, ONE OF MY TEAMMATES LAST YEAR WAS A FIRST YEAR TEACHER, AND WHILE I WAS IN MY NINTH YEAR AS A TEXAS EDUCATOR, NOT ONLY WAS HER SALARY LARGER THAN MINE, BUT HER BONUS WAS ALSO SIGNIFICANTLY LARGER THAN MINE. I HOPE THE DISCREPANCIES HERE ARE GENUINELY ADDRESSED TODAY. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ALL OF YOU, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU, TO REGULARLY GO AND SPEND TIME IN THE CLASSROOM TO INTERACT WITH THE STUDENTS AND LIVE THROUGH THE DECISIONS THAT YOU ARE MAKING FOR TEACHERS WITH A TEACHER. SADLY, AFTER THIS SCHOOL YEAR, I'VE MADE THE DECISION TO RESIGN FROM PUBLIC EDUCATION BECAUSE OF ALL OF THIS. BUT I COULDN'T LEAVE IN GOOD CONSCIENCE WITHOUT SAYING THESE THINGS THAT I BELIEVE ARE IMPORTANT FOR YOU AS THE SCHOOL BOARD TO HEAR. MY MOTIVE IS PURELY FOR THE LOVE OF OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS, AND WHAT SHOULD BE GOING ON INSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM VERSUS WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. THANK YOU, MISS HUESMAN. MISS HARRIS, THAT CONCLUDES OUR PUBLIC SPEAKERS THIS EVENING. ALL RIGHT THANK YOU, MR. POTEET. AND THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO CAME OUT TO SPEAK TONIGHT. WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU. AND WE DO HEAR YOU. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH. OUR NEXT ITEM IS AN ACTION ITEM FOR THE CONSENT AGENDA. [III. CONSENT / CONFIRMATION AGENDA ITEMS] DOES ANYONE WISH TO PULL ANY CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS FOR SEPARATE CONSIDERATION? THANK YOU, MISS TIMME. IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND? THANK YOU, MISS RENTERIA. THERE IS A MOTION BY MISS TIMMY, A SECOND BY MISS MS. RENTERÍA. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? ALL RIGHT. HEARING NONE. ALL IN FAVOR, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HANDS REAL HIGH. ALL RIGHT. MOTION PASSES SEVEN ZERO. OUR NEXT ITEM IS AN ACTION ITEM TO CONSIDER THE APPROVAL TO RATIFY THE LEASE THE PREMISES FOR THE VOTE FOR MAY [IV.B. Consider approval to Ratify Agreement - Lease of Premises for Vote for May 4, 2024 and May 28, 2024 Elections Agreement with the Dallas County Elections Department] 4TH, 2024 AND MAY 29TH, 2024 ELECTIONS AGREEMENT WITH THE DALLAS COUNTY ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT. MISS BRANUM, MR. PATE. THANK YOU, MS. BRANUM. YES. THIS IS JUST THE ELECTION CONTRACT. THE CONTRACT FOR USE OF OUR PREMISES FOR THE MAY 4TH AND MAY 28TH RUNOFF ELECTIONS. AND AGAIN, JUST DUE TO TIMING OF WORKING OUT THE DETAILS OF THE CONTRACT WITH DALLAS COUNTY, WE JUST ASK FOR YOU TO RATIFY THIS SO THAT WE CAN PROCEED WITH THE ELECTION ON SATURDAY. AND WITH THAT, I DO RECOMMEND THAT THE TRUSTEES APPROVE AND RATIFY THE INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH THE DALLAS COUNTY ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT FOR THE LEASE OF PREMISES FOR THE VOTING CENTERS ON MAY 4TH AND MAY 28TH, 2024 ELECTIONS. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. IS THERE A MOTION? SO MOVE. THANK YOU. MR. EAGER, IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND. THANK YOU, MISS PACHECO. THERE IS A MOTION BY MR. EAGER. A SECOND BY MISS PACHECO. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS BOARD? ALL RIGHT. HEARING NONE. ALL IN FAVOR, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HANDS. ALL RIGHT. MOTION PASSES SEVEN ZERO. WE DO HAVE A PRESENTATION AFTER THIS. WE'VE BEEN HERE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS NOW. WOULD YOU ALL LIKE TO TAKE A BREAK BEFORE WE DIG INTO THE PRESENTATION? YES. ALL RIGHT, LET'S DO IT. ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND WE'LL BE BACK. STARTING. ALL RIGHT. LOOKS LIKE EVERYBODY IS BACK AND HAD A GREAT BREAK. SO WE WILL GO AHEAD AND PROCEED WITH OUR NEXT AGENDA ITEM, WHICH IS AN INFORMATION ITEM REGARDING A PRESENTATION TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON THE SCHOOL [IV.C. SHAC Presentation] HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL, BETTER KNOWN AS SHAC. THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE LOOK FORWARD TO THIS PRESENTATION EVERY YEAR. AS YOU KNOW, WE PROVIDE AN ANNUAL REPORT ON THE WORK OF THE SHAC COMMITTEE. AND KELLY SELLERS, AS IT WAS MENTIONED EARLIER, DOES A PHENOMENAL JOB LEADING THIS COMMITTEE. AND WE ARE SO THANKFUL FOR HER LEADERSHIP AND SO THANKFUL FOR THE AUTHENTIC CONVERSATIONS THAT THE GROUP HAS. WE ALSO JUST WANT TO LIFT UP AND CELEBRATE OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND OUR OTHER STAFF MEMBERS THAT SERVE ON THE COMMITTEE. THEIR VOICE, THEIR LENS, BY WHICH THEY PROVIDE INPUT, HELP US ENSURE THAT WE'RE MAKING THE BEST DECISIONS FOR THE DISTRICT. AND SO I'M HAPPY TO TURN IT OVER TO BOTH OF YOU WHO ARE GOING TO LEAD US IN THIS YEAR'S REPORT FOR OUR SHAC COMMITTEE. PERFECT, PERFECT. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US. THANK YOU. SUPERINTENDENT BRANUM, PRESIDENT HARRIS. BOARD, THANK YOU FOR HAVING US. THIS IS OUR ANNUAL BOARD REPORT. SHAQ, YOU KNOW, WE MEET IT'S MANDATORY. WE A MINIMUM OF FOUR TIMES, BUT WE MEET FIVE TIMES A YEAR. WE'VE HAD SOME REALLY EXCELLENT MEETING TIMES AND CONVERSATIONS. THANK YOU. BOARD MEMBERS THAT HAVE ATTENDED OUR MEETINGS. IT HAS BEEN A TREMENDOUS YEAR. WE HAVE A LOT GOING FOR US. BUT I'M KELLY SELLERS, YOUR HEALTH PE DIRECTOR, BUT I AM THE CO-CHAIR OF SHAC AND I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE MY PARENT KAREN BRUNELL. LET HER INTRODUCE. YOU JUST WANT TO SAY, LIKE KAREN BRUNELL, MOST Y'ALL KNOW ME, BUT PRESTONWOOD ELEMENTARY. I HAVE A THIRD AND A FIFTH GRADER NOW. SO WE'RE HERE TO PRESENT ABOUT SHAC. WHAT WE'VE DONE THIS YEAR HAS BEEN A LOT. REALLY WANT TO THANK OUR MEMBERS FOR THEIR VOICE AND OUR CONVERSATIONS THAT WE'VE HAD AND WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT. WE'RE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE GOOD YEARS. BUT I WILL TELL YOU THAT THIS YEAR HAS BEEN GREAT. WE HAVE REALLY LOOKED AT A LOT. AND I WILL TURN IT OVER TO KAREN. THANK YOU. THANK YOU KELLY. YES, KELLY DOES SUCH A GREAT JOB JUST LEADING US AND HELPING US ORGANIZE OUR THOUGHTS AND OUR GOALS. AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE WAS A LOT UP THERE. AND I KNOW THAT LOOKS A LITTLE DAUNTING, BUT WE WE ADDED A NEW SYSTEM THIS YEAR TO KIND OF GARNER MORE AREAS BASED ON MEMBER INPUT, BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES IT WAS KIND OF LED BY DISTRICT NEEDS, AS IT SHOULD BE. BUT THIS YEAR WE IMPLEMENTED THIS, AND WE HOPE TO CONTINUE TO REALLY GAIN MORE IDEAS FROM THE MEMBERS OF WHAT THEY WANTED TO SEE. SO THIS IS A LONG LAUNDRY LIST. WE KIND OF STARTED WITH THAT. AND THE SUBCOMMITTEE KIND OF TOOK IT AND WE NARROWED DOWN. BUT YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING FROM STUDENT VOICE TO CAMPUS WELLNESS TEAMS, VAPING, DRUG AND ALCOHOL AND THEN TO STAFF WELLNESS EFFORTS. [01:10:05] SO THOSE WERE JUST SOME OF THE BIGGIES THAT WE WANTED TO FOCUS ON. AND SO FROM THERE, OUR SUBCOMMITTEE WE TOOK A LOOK AT A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS FROM THE WELLNESS POLICY ACTION PLAN THAT WE REVISED LAST YEAR. SO THE PAST COUPLE YEARS HAVE BEEN REALLY SPENT ON ADOPTING A NEW HUMAN GROWTH AND SEXUALITY CURRICULUM, UPDATING THE WELLNESS POLICY, WHICH HAS A TRIENNIAL REVIEW. SO WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DO A LOT OF THIS UNTIL THIS YEAR. SO IT WAS REALLY GOOD TO KIND OF REVIEW. OKAY, WHAT DID WE DO LAST YEAR? WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO FOR MOVING FORWARD? REALLY EXPLORING SOME OF THE BEST PRACTICES FROM DISTRICTS, ADOPTING A WHOLE CHILD MODEL AS Y'ALL CONTINUE TO REVISE THE LIVE WISE, LIVE, HEALTHY CURRICULUM THAT DOCTOR MARTIN HAS BEEN DOING AND LEADING A PHENOMENAL JOB OF GETTING INPUT THIS YEAR, THAT'S GOING TO BE PART OF OUR RECOMMENDATIONS TO TRULY TAP INTO THAT WHOLE CHILD. IT'S NOT JUST MENTAL HEALTH, IT'S NOT JUST PHYSICAL HEALTH. IT TRULY IS EDUCATING THAT WHOLE CHILD. WE CAN I DON'T KNOW WHY. I'M LOOKING AT MY NOTES. I SEE IT RIGHT HERE. REVIEWED RESEARCH, SIGHTINGS THE BENEFITS OF THE WHOLE CHILD MODEL. AGAIN, OTHER DISTRICTS SORRY. REVIEWED OTHER DISTRICT OPTIONS FOR THE RISD PROTOCOL THAT WE'RE GOING TO TAKE TO INVOLVE STUDENT INVOLVEMENT. THAT WAS A BIG DISCUSSION THIS YEAR, GETTING THE STUDENT VOICE. SO WE LOOKED INTO WHAT OTHER DISTRICTS ARE DOING, HOW THEY GET THOSE STUDENTS TO THE MEETINGS, YOU KNOW, WHAT'S THE TRANSPORTATION LIKE? WE ALSO REVIEWED THE DATA FROM THE 21 DAY CHALLENGE AT WORK PROGRAM. LEWISVILLE ISD RECENTLY DID THAT AS A PILOT FOR THEIR STAFF WELLNESS. AND THAT'S GOING TO, AGAIN BE PART OF OUR RECOMMENDATION FOR NEXT YEAR, TRYING TO, YOU KNOW, GIVE MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAFFS TO BE AGAIN PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY HEALTHY. WE REVIEWED THE SURVEY THAT WAS DEVELOPED BASED OFF THE WELLNESS ACTION PLAN, THE WELLNESS POLICY ACTION PLAN LAST YEAR AND THE END OF THE YEAR SURVEY THAT'S ABOUT TO GO OUT TO THEM, AND THEY'LL HAVE THROUGH THE MONTH OF MAY TO ANSWER MAYBE 15, 20 QUESTIONS. AND THE REASON THAT WE DECIDED TO KIND OF GO THIS ROUTE PART OF OUR RECOMMENDATION LAST YEAR WAS ACTUALLY MEASURING, YOU KNOW, TACTICS. HOW ARE WE IN INSTITUTING HEALTH AND WELLNESS ON OUR CAMPUSES? THERE ARE SOME VERY DAUNTING, LENGTHY MEASUREMENT TOOLS OUT THERE. THE SCHOOL HEALTH INDEX IS FROM THE CDC, AND IT'S JUST RIDICULOUSLY LONG. SO WE THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST A GREAT COMPROMISE TO FOCUS ON OUR WELLNESS POLICY AS A DISTRICT, SEE WHERE THE SCHOOLS ARE, EITHER, YOU KNOW, HITTING THOSE GOALS OR NOT, AND HOW THE DISTRICT CAN BETTER SERVE THEM. SO THAT'S REALLY ALL THE SURVEY IS. SO IF I CAN REITERATE ANYTHING TO THE PRINCIPALS, IT'S NOT A GOTCHA. IT TRULY IS. YOU KNOW, HOW ARE YOU DOING ON THESE ITEMS AND CAN WE HELP. SO THAT WAS OUR RESEARCH. SO OUR RECOMMENDATIONS AGAIN FOCUSED ON THE WHOLE CHILD. AND IT'S JUST TO CONTINUE TO COLLABORATE WITH THE LIVE HEALTHY PROGRAM TO EXPAND ON THOSE WHOLE CHILD TENETS SUCH AS BUT NOT LIMITED TO PE AND HEALTH, EDUCATION, NUTRITION, STAFF WELLNESS AND THEN BOYS AND GIRLS MENTOR PROGRAMS AGAIN, KIND OF GETTING A MORE COORDINATED MESSAGE. A LOT OF WHAT DOCTOR MARTIN HAD AT HER WORK GROUPS WAS, YOU KNOW, HOW IS THIS MESSAGING GETTING OUT TO PARENTS, HOW, YOU KNOW, WHEN THEY SEND HOME FLIERS, IS IT GETTING THROUGH? BUT IF WE HAVE A MORE COORDINATED MESSAGE OF THE GREAT THINGS GOING ON IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AS WELL AS, YOU KNOW, MENTAL HEALTH AND MENTAL EDUCATION, SO JUST TRYING TO CONTINUE TO BRAINSTORM WHAT THAT MIGHT LOOK LIKE. AND THEN SO STAFF WELLNESS AGAIN, JUST ENCOURAGING DISTRICT TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT 21 DAY CHALLENGE WHEN WE DO IT NEXT YEAR IN THE FALL. AND THEN STUDENT INVOLVEMENT, THAT'S OUR BIG ONE THAT WE WANT TO RECRUIT AND HAVE STUDENTS COME EITHER FROM, YOU KNOW, IDENTIFIED TWO PER HIGH SCHOOL. WE NEVER QUITE KNOW, BUT WE'RE GOING TO WE AMENDED OUR BYLAWS TO SAY. ALLOWING STUDENTS FOLLOWING DISTRICT PROTOCOLS, SO THAT WILL BE DEVELOPED OVER THE SUMMER OF HOW WE'RE GOING TO REACH OUT TO THEM AND GET THEM TO ATTEND THE MEETINGS. AND THEN FOR THE WELLNESS PLAN, IT'S REALLY GOING TO BE DRIVEN ON THE DATA WE GET BACK FROM THE SURVEY. AND SO THE SUBJECT SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT ON THE QUESTIONS ARE GOING TO BE SURROUNDED AROUND THE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL INCREASING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. AND THAT'S HOW OUR THE SCHOOLS DOING PROMOTING OUT OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES NOT RELATED TO SCHOOL. BUT YOU KNOW, HOW CAN WE SEND THAT MESSAGE HOME AND NOT RELY SOLELY ON THE DISTRICT INCREASING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FOR STUDENTS K THROUGH SIX? WE DO HAVE A STATE MANDATE FOR 135 MINUTES. WE DO ALSO ONLY HAVE TWO DAYS OF PE. SO HOW ARE WE MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE GETTING ENOUGH MINUTES PROVIDING THAT UNPLANNED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY RECESS FOR K THROUGH SIX. AGAIN, ENSURING THAT EVEN OUR SIXTH GRADERS WHO ARE STILL AT ELEMENTARY ARE GETTING THE RECESS THAT IS IN OUR WELLNESS POLICY THAT THEY SHOULD BE AGAIN, THOSE SIXTH GRADERS ARE THE ONES WHO PROBABLY NEED IT MOST TO GET, YOU KNOW, THOSE WIGGLES OUT AND GET BACK AND FOCUS ON LEARNING AND DECREASE THOSE DISCIPLINE ISSUES. [01:15:08] AND THEN LASTLY, LOOKING AT THE CAMPUS MASTER SCHEDULES FOR BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AND AGAIN, JUST ENSURING THAT THEY'RE GETTING ADEQUATE TIME FOR THOSE MEAL TIMES. SO THOSE WERE SOME OF THE BIG DISCUSSION ITEMS IN OUR SUBCOMMITTEE ON THOSE. BUT THERE'S LIKE I SAID YOU KNOW, QUITE A FEW OBJECTIVES THAT ARE IN THE WELLNESS POLICY. ALL RIGHT. SO THE NEXT YEAR WE'RE GOING TO BE CONTINUING TO LOOK AT ALIGNING WITH THE DISTRICT GOALS OF ADDRESSING BEHAVIOR CONCERNS, PRIORITIZING MALE ADOLESCENT AND TEEN WELLNESS PROGRAMING. EWAN HAS ACTUALLY BROUGHT A LOT OF AWARENESS TO THE FACT OF THERE'S BEEN SO MUCH PROMOTION FOR GIRLS PROGRAMING, AND AGAIN, RIGHTLY SO. AS A FEMALE, I CAN, YOU KNOW, APPLAUD THOSE EFFORTS. BUT, YOU KNOW, IN THE IN THE IN THAT TIME FRAME, HAVE WE STARTED TO KIND OF LOSE FOCUS ON SOME OF THE BOYS AND WHERE WE CAN GO WITH THEM AS FAR AS PROGRAMING? SO WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO REVISE OR REVIEW THOSE AND EXAMINING SUPPORT SYSTEMS FOR EARLY INTERVENTION, ADDRESSING SOCIAL AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS, AND THEN UTILIZING THE DATA FROM THE WELLNESS POLICY. THERE ARE REVIEW THE CREATE THE NEW GOALS FOR THE RISD SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS SURVEY REGARDING THE WELLNESS POLICY PLAN. Y'ALL TRY TO SAY THAT LIKE FIVE TIMES FAST NOT EASY WELLNESS POLICY ACTION PLAN. SO YEAH, WE'RE GOING TO REALLY WAIT TO SEE WHAT THOSE RESULTS SAY BEFORE WE SET ANY MORE GOALS FOR NEXT YEAR. AND JUST AS ALWAYS, THE CHAT CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE AMAZING THINGS THE DISTRICT IS DOING FOR OUR KIDS. YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING FROM THE 21 DAY SNACK CHALLENGE TO THE RACE DRIVES TO THE LIVE WISE, LIVE HEALTHY, ALL THE, YOU KNOW, GREAT AWARENESS, INFORMATION, MATERIAL THEY PROVIDE FOR THAT. THE GREAT THINGS OUR CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES ARE DOING. THEY RECENTLY HAD THE SCHOOL LUNCH HERO WITH A HUGE PROMOTION FOR THAT LAST WEEK. SO THAT WAS REALLY GREAT. AND JUST HEALTH SERVICES, ALL THE, YOU KNOW, WONDERFUL THINGS THEY'RE DOING WITH THEIR SCREENINGS AND HEALTH RELATED SERVICES ARE DOING. ALL RIGHT. AND THEN ANOTHER COUPLE OF GREAT THINGS ARE JUST THE CELEBRATIONS THAT WE HAD THIS PAST YEAR. THROUGH THE 21 DAY SNACK CHALLENGE THEY RECEIVED, THE DISTRICT HAS RECEIVED 30 OVER $3,500 IN INCENTIVES FOR THE PE TEACHERS AND FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. THE RG, THE FLAG PROGRAM WITH THE JROTC CADETS HELP ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND THEY CAN ALSO EARN SCHOLARSHIPS. AND THEN THE RAISED RIDES PROGRAM IS WHERE THE PARTICIPATING STUDENTS GET TO ENTER IN A DRAWING TO WIN A NEW BIKE. ALL RIGHT. SO WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID HERE, KIND OF OUR NEXT STEPS. WE NEED TO RECRUIT SOME NEW MEMBERS, AS ALL SHACKS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE 50%. AND IT'S THE YEAR TYPICALLY STARTS OFF STRONG. AND THEY WHAT? YEAH. TWO ONE MAJORITY PARENTS. AND SO WE REALLY, YOU KNOW, Y'ALL DID A GREAT JOB A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO OR YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, I STARTED SENDING OUT INFORMATION AND SO YOU WOULD GET THAT LETTER FROM ME AGAIN. THIS WILL BE THE LAST YEAR. YOU GET IT FROM ME. I SO I WAS WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A CO-CHAIR FOR TWO YEARS, BUT WHEN WE AMENDED OUR BYLAWS, KIND OF GRANDFATHERED IN. AND SO I AGREED TO STAY ON FOR ONE MORE YEAR. BUT WE HAVE LOVELY SARAH BACK HERE WHO WILL BE OUR NEW CO-CHAIR FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. BUT AGAIN, I'LL BE SENDING ALL THAT INFORMATION LETTER. AND IF YOU'VE GOT ANYBODY IN MIND WHO'S PASSIONATE ABOUT HEALTH AND WELLNESS AND WOULD LIKE TO SERVE ON THE SHACK, WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THEM. AND THEN WE'RE JUST GOING TO CONTINUE TO REVIEW THAT DATA, SHARE THE RESULTS WITH THE SHACK AND THE PRINCIPALS, AND THEN RECONVENE IN SEPTEMBER WITH OUR FIRST MEETING. ANY QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT. FANTASTIC. THANK YOU. QUESTIONS FOR MR. POTEET. I DO, THANKS FOR THE PRESENTATION, BOTH OF YOU. THE I KNOW THAT A LOT OF THE GOALS THAT LOOK LIKE UNDER THE WELLNESS PLAN WERE FOCUSED ON K THROUGH SIX. AS WE I KNOW WE HAVE ONE LEARNING COMMUNITY THAT'S SPLITTING INTO K THROUGH FIVE AND SIX THROUGH EIGHT. SO HOW'S THAT GOING TO BE ADDRESSED SINCE WE'LL BASICALLY, I GUESS, HAVE TWO PROGRAMS OR I DON'T KNOW, HOW IS THAT APPLICATION GOING TO BEEN THOUGHT THROUGH OR IS IT STILL IN THE MIX? STILL IN THE MIX. YES. SO WE'RE LEARNING HOW WE WANT TO HANDLE THAT. WE'RE DEFINITELY BUT YOU NEED TO KNOW IS K-12. I KNOW SOME OF THE POLICIES SEEM LIKE IT'S MORE ALIGNED TO ELEMENTARY, BUT THERE ARE IT'S K-12, AND WE'RE ALWAYS HAVE THE EYES OF ALL STUDENTS. NOT JUST K FIVE, NOT JUST K SIX, NOT JUST THESE PARTICULAR LEARNING COMMUNITIES. IT'S ALL KIDS, ALL THE TIME. EVERY TEACHER, EVERY LEADER. BUT YES. SO THOSE ARE STILL KIND OF IN THE MIX A LITTLE BIT. I'LL LET GO AHEAD. WELL, I'LL JUST MENTION THAT PART OF WHY THE MIDDLE SCHOOL MODEL WORKS SO WELL IN SIXTH GRADE. [01:20:04] BEING AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL IS THAT MASTER SCHEDULE IS STRUCTURED. SO, FOR EXAMPLE, WE CAN ENSURE THERE'S A TIME FOR LUNCH IS BUILT INTO THE SCHEDULE, AND WE KNOW HOW MUCH TIME THEY'RE GOING TO GET. EVERY SIXTH GRADER HAS TO TAKE P.E., SO THEY'RE GOING TO GET P.E. AND GET THAT NUMBER OF MINUTES THAT WE KNOW THAT THEY NEED, BOTH FOR THEIR MIND AS WELL AS FOR THEIR PHYSICAL WELLNESS. THE ELEMENTARY MASTER SCHEDULE, THAT'S A LITTLE BIT MORE FLUID. AND THERE'S A LITTLE BIT MORE PRINCIPAL AUTONOMY BASED UPON, YOU KNOW, A CAMPUS OF 300 IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN A CAMPUS OF A THOUSAND. AND DESIGNING A MASTER SCHEDULE TO ALLOW FOR THAT. THERE HAS TO BE SOME ALLOWANCES THERE. SO JUST MAKING SURE THAT THE ACCOUNTABILITY MEASURES ARE IN THERE SO THAT WE'RE MAKING SURE WE'RE GIVING STUDENTS ENOUGH TIME TO EAT AND ENOUGH STUDENTS TIME TO GO OUTSIDE AND HAVE RECESS AND TO HAVE PE. THAT'S WHY I THINK THAT FOCUS IS ON THAT ELEMENTARY STRUCTURE. SOME OF THAT IS TAKEN CARE OF WHEN THEY MOVE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL. AND JUST ONE THING I WAS GOING TO ADD ON THE FOR THE WELLNESS POLICY SURVEY THAT THE PRINCIPALS RECEIVED THERE ON THERE IT IS, YOU KNOW, DELINEATED BETWEEN K THROUGH FIVE AND THE SIXTH GRADE. SO FOR THE SCHOOLS THAT ARE TRANSITIONING AND WON'T HAVE THAT SIXTH GRADE ANYMORE, THEY WON'T HAVE TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION. OKAY. GREAT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. POTEET. GREAT QUESTION. MS. RENTERÍA. YES. THANK YOU LADIES ALSO FOR GREAT PRESENTATION AND FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO. JUST SO APPRECIATIVE. I DID WONDER IF YOU COULD JUST KIND OF WALK ME THROUGH WHAT FORMS OF RECRUITMENT ARE DO WE DO I KNOW WE HAD THE SURVEY. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING TO TRY TO RECRUIT MORE PARENTS, OR IS IT JUST PARENTS OR CAN ANYBODY IN THE IN THE COMMUNITY. RIGHT. ANYONE IN THE DISTRICT? SO WHAT ARE WE DOING TO MAYBE RECRUIT MORE OTHER THAN THE SURVEY. GO AHEAD. YEAH. SO FOR ONE, I DO SHARE IT. I ALSO SERVE ON THE COUNCIL PTA. SO I SHARE IT THROUGH THEM. SO WE TRY TO REACH OUT TO THE LOCAL PTAS. WE REACH OUT TO YOU, AND THEN THE REST IS FROM OUR EXISTING MEMBERS TO RECRUIT. YOU KNOW, ANYBODY THAT THEY MIGHT KNOW. BUT WE CAN ALSO GO THE FORMER PRINCIPALS AS WELL. LIKE IF THEY CAN IDENTIFY SOMEBODY ON THEIR CAMPUS, WE WOULD GLADLY TAKE THEM. BUT THOSE ARE OUR KIND OF IT'S THROUGH THE PTA OR PTA THAT WE'VE SHARED IN THE PAST. AS ANY NEWSLETTERS THAT ARE OFFERED. WE WE ARE ON ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THAT WE CAN GET OUR HANDS ON TO MAKE SURE SHAC IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE COME SUPPORT. WE ALSO HAVE SHAC AS A ON OUR DISTRICT COMMITTEE LIST. AND SO WHEN WE EVERY YEAR SOLICITING PARENTS TO JOIN HERE ALL THE DISTRICT COMMITTEES THAT WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THAT IS ONE OF THE LISTED COMMITTEES AS WELL. SO THAT PARENTS CAN, YOU KNOW, I WANT TO BE ON THAT AND THAT OR I WANT TO BE JUST ON THAT ONE. AND SO WE WE WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO COMMUNICATE IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES AND TO HAVE AS MANY REACH OUTS AS POSSIBLE. WE DO FIND THAT WHEN IT'S IN THE NEWSLETTER, THE CAMPUS NEWSLETTER, OUR PARENTS TEND TO READ THAT A LITTLE BIT MORE CLOSELY AND HAVE A BETTER RESPONSE RATE. SO WE REALLY DO LEAN IN ON THE PRINCIPALS FOR INCLUDING IT IN THEIR NEWSLETTERS. THAT'S AWESOME. NO, THANK YOU FOR I MEAN, AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO BECAUSE I WAS JUST WONDERING IF THERE'S ALSO A WAY I KNOW OUR ENGAGEMENT OUR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DO A GREAT JOB. AND ALWAYS GETTING THE WORD OUT RIGHT OF ANY COMMITTEE. BUT I JUST WONDERED IF WE PARTNERED WITH THE YOU KNOW, LOCAL WHAT IS IT? BUSINESSES OR, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE SO MANY PARTNERS THAT I THOUGHT JUST TO RECRUIT MORE BECAUSE YOU GUYS DO AN AWESOME JOB. AND BUT BEING ABLE TO REALLY GET PEOPLE EXCITED ABOUT IT AND ALL, AND, YOU KNOW, THANK YOU. I MEAN, AND WHATEVER THAT I KNOW I OR THAT WE CAN DO TO ALSO PROMOTE THAT MORE. SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, MISS PACHECO. ALL RIGHT. GREAT PRESENTATION. THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE. I'VE BEEN CURIOUS HOW THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE GOING TO BE RECRUITED. IS THAT GOING TO BE AN APPLICATION OR HOW ARE WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR SELECTING THESE KIDS STILL IN THE MIX AS WELL? SO WE'RE TRYING TO LOOK AT WHAT SCHOOL POLICY IS USED IN THE PAST FOR SOME OF THEIR STUDENTS. HOW DO THEY RECRUIT THEM TO COME AND BE ON THAT? THE STUDENT AMBASSADORS, HOW DO THEY COME AND BE A PART OF IS IT STILL 12 TO 12? YES, MA'AM. 12 HOW ARE THEY DOING THAT? GOING THROUGH THE PRINCIPALS AND ASKING THIS IS RELATIVELY NEW. I WILL SAY THAT WHEN WE TALK WITH OTHER SHAC DISTRICTS, THEY'RE LIKE, YOU TELL US WHAT YOU'RE DOING. SO IT'S KIND OF NEW. AND SOME ARE ONE PARTICULAR DISTRICTS LIKE, WELL, MAYBE IT'S JUST THE HEALTH STUDENTS, BUT WE DIDN'T WANT IT TO. WE WANT IT TO BE FOR ANY AND ALL. IF SOMEONE IS EXCITED ABOUT IT, HOW CAN WE SHARE THE NEWS AND WHAT IT'S ABOUT? ARE YOU INTERESTED? WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO COME TO FIVE MEETINGS, THOSE KINDS OF THINGS, FOR SURE, TO ALLOW THEM TO COME AND PARTICIPATE? DEFINITELY GOING THROUGH THE PRINCIPALS, COUNSELORS FIRST AND FOREMOST, AND THEN GO FROM. JUST FIRST YEAR. HOW DOES THIS LOOK? [01:25:01] DO WE WANT 40? DOES YOU KNOW. HOW DOES THAT WORK? YOU KNOW, SO WE STILL HAVE TO STAY WITH 51% PARENTS VERSUS, YOU KNOW, 40 PARENTS, 40 STUDENTS. SO WE WERE LIKE, HOW WOULD WE WAY OUTWEIGH THAT? HOW WOULD WE LOOK TO GET THE CORRECT NUMBER FROM EACH LEARNING COMMUNITY? WHAT GRADES DO WE DO? HOW LONG IS THEIR TERM. SO THOSE ARE REALLY THINGS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT. YOU WANT TO THROW IN. YEAH I MEAN YOU BASICALLY THE TERM WOULD BE THE SAME AS THE REGULAR MEMBERS. SO TWO YEARS WE DID THE OVERALL SUGGESTION TOWARDS THE END WAS THAT THEY WERE AT LEAST DRIVING AGE AND THAT THEY COULD DRIVE THEMSELVES. AND THEN FOLLOWING SOME KIND OF SUPERINTENDENT BRANUM POLICIES THAT YOU HAVE IN PLACE FOR YEARS TO KIND OF MODEL IT AFTER THAT. THAT'S KIND OF WHERE WE ARE. OKAY, THAT'S THAT'S REALLY NICE. AND I'M GLAD THAT YOU'RE CONSIDERING THE YOUNG IDEAS OF OUR STUDENTS. BECAUSE I'M SURE THEY HAVE SOME INNOVATIVE THINGS TO TO SHARE WITH US. THANKS. AND THE DISTRICTS THAT DO HAVE THE STUDENTS, YOU KNOW, ON THE SHAC, I THINK THAT THAT'S WHAT THEY'VE SAID. IT IS MADE. THAT'S GREAT. THANK YOU. YOU'RE LIKE, YOU'RE DONE THERE. LIKE WE'RE DONE. SHUT IT OFF. THANK YOU. MR. PACHECO. ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS FOR YOU? WE'VE GOT ONE OVER HERE FROM MISS MCCOWAN. I JUST HAVE TO REMEMBER HOW TO USE THE MIC. OKAY, SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU GUYS. I GOT TO COME IN TO A COUPLE OF THOSE MEETINGS AND SIT IN AND ACTUALLY SERVED WITH SHAQ A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. AND I THINK YOU GUYS DO GREAT WORK. AND I LOVE HOW YOU ARE TRULY INCLUSIVE AND REALLY OPEN TO HAVING AS MANY MEMBERS COME ON BOARD AND BE A PART OF THE CONVERSATIONS. AND GOOD LUCK TO OUR NEW COMING ON CHAIR. BUT ONE OF MY QUESTIONS IS YOU TALKED ABOUT NEXT YEAR GOALS IS TO ADDRESS BEHAVIOR CONCERNS AND PRIORITIZE MALE, ADOLESCENT AND TEEN WELLNESS PROGRAMING. AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS ARE BEING CHARGED WITH THAT, LIKE, HOW Y'ALL SET THAT GOAL. AND BUT I KNOW THAT THAT IS SOMETHING DISTRICT WIDE. IT'S JUST GOING TO BE A CONVERSATION ACROSS DISTRICT WIDE. AND I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO BRING DEPARTMENTS TOGETHER AND COMMITTEES AND GROUPS TOGETHER TO REALLY LOOK AT THAT ALIGNMENT. AND EVEN INCLUDING THE KIDS IN THOSE CONVERSATIONS, I THINK WILL BE PIVOTAL AS WELL. SO I'M REALLY INTERESTED IN THAT PIECE AND WOULD LOVE TO JOIN YOU ALL NEXT YEAR IN THOSE CONVERSATIONS TOO. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DID. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU BACK AGAIN. AND YOU HEARD HER SAY THAT? YEAH. WE GOT IT DOWN. THANK YOU, MISS MCGOWAN. ALL RIGHT. GOOD DEAL. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. WE WILL ABSOLUTELY DO OUR BEST TO SEE IF WE CAN RECRUIT AND GET SOME PEOPLE TO ASSIST YOU. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH. YES. THANK YOU. YES. YOU'RE AMAZING. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. [IV.D. Consider the Approval of 2024-2025 Compensation] OUR NEXT ITEM IS AN ACTION ITEM TO CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE 2024 2025 COMPENSATION PLAN. MRS. BRANUM. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE HARRIS. AND I'VE INVITED DOCTOR GOODSON AND MR. PATE TO JOIN ME IN TONIGHT'S PRESENTATION. I'M GOING TO LAUNCH US A LITTLE BIT JUST BY ANCHORING US IN A COUPLE OF DISTRICT WIDE CONVERSATIONS. THE FIRST ONE, AS YOU KNOW IT'S ALL ABOUT OUR NORTH STAR GOAL. I DON'T KNOW WHO HAS THE CLICKER. OKAY, OKAY, THERE YOU GO. IT'S EVERYTHING THAT WE DO IS TOWARDS OUR NORTH STAR GOAL AND ENSURING THAT EVERY STUDENT, TEACHER, AND LEADER MEETS OR EXCEEDS THEIR ACADEMIC GROWTH GOAL. AND IN ORDER TO DO THAT, WE HAVE TO HAVE THE VERY BEST TEACHERS IN FRONT OF OUR STUDENTS. WE HAVE TO HAVE THE VERY BEST COUNSELORS. YOU HEARD ALL OF THE WORK THAT WE ARE DOING AROUND ADDRESSING THE WHOLE CHILD, AND THAT MEANS THE COUNSELORS, THE NURSES, AS WELL AS OUR LIBRARIANS. AND TONIGHT, WHAT WE ARE BRINGING FORWARD IS WHAT WE BELIEVE IS A BOLD PLAN THAT REALLY IS NECESSARY TO TRY TO ADDRESS A GAP THAT STARTED REALLY BACK IN 2011. AND TO NO FAULT OF THE DISTRICT OR TO PAST ADMINISTRATION OR BOARDS, BUT AT A TIME WHEN THE DISTRICT, WHEN OUR STATE WAS IN A, AN ECONOMIC DOWNTURN, THE DISTRICT HAD TO MAKE SOME VERY HARD DECISIONS AROUND HOW WE WERE GOING TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD. AND THE DECISION TO FREEZE SALARIES AND NOT PROVIDE RAISES FOR MULTIPLE YEARS CREATED THIS GAP THAT WE HAVE SEEN JUST CONTINUE TO EXACERBATE OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. AND I WILL JUST SAY, KEEP GOING. WHEN WE MET WITH THE COMMUNITY BUDGET STEERING COMMITTEE THE NOTION OF STRATEGIC COMPENSATION AND REALLY [01:30:08] RECOGNIZING ALL OF THE DIFFERENT EMPLOYEE TYPES AND WHERE WE WERE COMPARED TO OUR BENCHMARK DISTRICTS AND WHERE WE WERE TO STATEWIDE AVERAGES. THIS WAS A BIG PART OF THAT CONVERSATION. AND IF WE AS A DISTRICT WERE GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE REALLY DIFFICULT DECISIONS LIKE WE DID IN MARCH, TO CONSOLIDATE CAMPUSES, TO CREATE SPACE IN THE BUDGET, TO PROVIDE COMPENSATION, THAT WE NEEDED TO BE SURE THAT WE WERE ADDRESSING THE STAFF WHERE WE SAW THOSE GAPS EXIST. THE RECOMMENDATION THAT I'M BRINGING FORWARD TONIGHT, AND THAT IS OUR STAFF HAS DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB OF WORKING TOWARDS IT IS NOT GOING TO ADDRESS ALL OF THE AREAS THAT OUR STRATEGIC COMPENSATION SUBCOMMITTEE STUDIED AND THAT WE KNOW. AND AS WE HAVE SHOWN YOU IN EVERY ONE OF THE HR REPORTS THAT WE HAVE DONE THIS SPRING, WE KNOW WE ARE BEHIND BENCHMARK FOR MANY OF OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION STAFF. WE KNOW WE ARE BEHIND BENCHMARK FOR OUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, FOR OUR PRINCIPALS, FOR OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS. THERE I COULD LIST SEVERAL DIFFERENT EMPLOYEE TYPES THAT WE KNOW WE ARE BEHIND. BUT AS YOU NOTICE IT SAYS, WE HAVE TO BE STRATEGIC. WE HAVE LIMITED RESOURCES AVAILABLE. OUR T TYPES ARE 55% OF OUR OUR STAFFING PERSONNEL. THERE'S ANOTHER 45% OF OUR STAFF THAT WE KNOW AS WE CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD, THAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO METHODICALLY WORK AS A TEAM TO ADDRESS THAT GAP. IT CANNOT ALL GET DONE THIS YEAR, AND I DON'T SAY THAT FLIPPANTLY. I DON'T SAY THAT AS WORDS OF PLATITUDE. I SAY THAT. WITH A GENUINE WITH A GENUINE HEART OF I. I HAVE READ EVERY EMAIL FOR STAFF MEMBERS WHO MAY NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE SAME BOLD RECOMMENDATION THAT WE'RE MAKING TONIGHT FOR OUR TEACHER TYPES. I UNDERSTAND THE WORK THAT THEY DO, THE DIFFERENCE THAT THEY MAKE. BUT AS WE WORK THROUGH THE BUDGET, OUR TEACHERS, OUR COUNSELORS, OUR NURSES AND OUR LIBRARIANS, THEY ARE THAT FIRST LINE OF EVERY DAY WHO'S INTERACTING WITH OUR STUDENTS AND ULTIMATELY IS WORKING. TOWARDS THIS NORTH STAR GOAL. EVERY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL DOES THAT AS WELL. EVERY SLP DOES THAT, EVERY LSP, EVERY DIAGNOSTICIAN DOES. I MEAN, THERE ARE SO MANY EMPLOYEE TYPES THAT CONTRIBUTE, BUT THIS YEAR WHERE WE ARE WITH THE BUDGET, WE HAVE TO BE STRATEGIC. AND THAT IS WHY IN YEAR ONE AND WE HAVE SAID WE COULD NOT ACCOMPLISH THIS ALL IN YEAR ONE. IN YEAR ONE, OUR FOCUS, OUR FOCUS WAS ON ADDRESSING THE GAP IN OUR T-TYPE, OUR HOPE. IF YOU LOOK AT EVERY OTHER RECOMMENDATION THAT IS ON THIS SCREEN. THESE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE ABOUT CONTINUING TO BE MORE EFFICIENT IN OUR BUDGET SO THAT WE CAN CREATE MORE SPACE, MORE CAPACITY IN OUR BUDGET IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS, SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO STRATEGICALLY ADDRESS THE GAPS THAT EXIST IN OUR COMPENSATION PLANS FOR ALL EMPLOYEE TYPES. WE WILL BE WORKING, I HOPE, AS A COLLECTIVE TEAM, I HOPE OUR COMMUNITY OUR EDUCATORS, WE WILL CONTINUE TO EDUCATE AND CONTINUE TO INFORM AND ASK AUSTIN TO CONTINUE TO INCREASE OUR FUNDING. THAT HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED FOR SIX YEARS, SO THAT THEY CAN ALSO HELP CREATE SPACE IN THE BUDGET WHERE WE CAN COMPENSATE OUR STAFF, ALL OF OUR STAFF THAT IS BEHIND BENCHMARK. AND SO EVERY YEAR, THIS IS A CONVERSATION THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO BRING FORWARD THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE COMMUNITY BUDGET STEERING COMMITTEE TO CLOSE THAT GAP ACROSS THE SYSTEM. THAT IS THE COMMITMENT THAT THE BOARD MADE TO THE COMMUNITY BUDGET STEERING COMMITTEE THAT I MADE TO THE COMMUNITY BUDGET STEERING COMMITTEE, THAT IS OUR WORK. AND WE'RE WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO THIS WORK UNTIL WE GET THERE. SO WITH THAT. I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO DOCTOR GOODSON, WHERE HE IS GOING TO ADDRESS OUR SOME OF OUR BENCHMARK INFORMATION SO I CAN MAKE THE FINAL RECOMMENDATION. THANK YOU, MISS BRANUM. GOOD EVENING, BOARD, AND THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU JUST SHARED. MS. BRANUM. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. I THINK IT CAPTURED EVERYTHING VERY WELL. JUST HAVE TO SAY THAT GOOD EVENING, BOARD AGAIN. WE JUST WANTED TO REMIND YOU OF A FEW THINGS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT IN SOME OF OUR PRIOR CONVERSATIONS. AGAIN, KIND OF FRAMING THE FOCUS ON THE TEACHER TYPES AND HOW WE COMPARE TO OTHER DISTRICTS AROUND US. AND SO, AGAIN, THIS IS JUST A REVIEW OF THE NEW HIRES SALARY SCHEDULE FOR 23-24. THAT INCLUDES NOT ONLY OUR NUMBERS, BUT THE OTHER DISTRICTS AROUND US. I HAVE ABOUT EIGHT THERE. AND AGAIN, WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE MILESTONES FOR YEAR ZERO, FIVE, TEN ALL THE WAY TO 25, WE ARE NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THAT COMPARISON. WE SHARED WITH YOU IN OUR LAST MEETING WHAT WE KNEW AT THE TIME IN TERMS OF WHAT OTHER DISTRICTS ARE DOING. [01:35:04] WE ARE STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM OTHER DISTRICTS. WE FOUND OUT JUST RECENTLY AS MONDAY NIGHT, ACTUALLY, THAT ALLEN ISD APPROVED A NEW TEACHER STARTING SALARY OF 60,400. AND THE RATE, THE PAY RAISE STRUCTURE THAT THEY'RE IMPLEMENTING WILL BE 3% OF THE MIDPOINT. THE OTHERS FROM THE OTHER DISTRICTS ARE THE SAME. SO WE SUMMARIZED ALL OF THE OPTIONS ON ONE SLIDE HERE. AND WE'LL GO INTO MORE DETAIL FOR OPTION C. AGAIN, THE OTHER TWO OPTIONS INCORPORATED A STRATIFIED RAISE VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST. AND YOU'LL SEE THE ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS OF ADJUSTING THE CUSTODIAL STAFF AND THEN ADDITIONAL CENTRAL AND SPECIAL EDUCATION CENTRAL SPECIAL EDUCATION DAYS. THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH EACH OF THOSE OPTIONS. THIS SEPARATE SLIDE IS OPTION C. AGAIN NO CHANGES FROM OUR DISCUSSION. THE LAST GO ROUND STARTING TEACHER SALARY WOULD BE $61,000. AND THEN THE STEPS IN BETWEEN YEARS ONE AND TEN WOULD BE 500 STEPS BETWEEN 11 AND 30, 35 WOULD BE $1,000. RETURNING T-TYPES WOULD SEE THE GREATER OF EITHER THE STEP ADJUSTMENT, THEIR NEW PLACEMENT ON THAT SCALE, OR 3%, WHICHEVER ONE IS HIGHER. AND THEN AGAIN WE SEE THE PERCENTAGES 3% FOR EXEMPT AND NONEXEMPT CUSTODIAL STAFF INCREASED TO $15 AN HOUR, AND THEN ADDING FOUR WORKDAYS TO CENTRAL SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS AND PARAPROFESSIONALS. SO I'LL TURN IT OVER TO MR. PATE TO GO THROUGH THE MULTI YEAR FORECAST FOR THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS. THANK YOU DOCTOR GOODSON. AND SO THERE ARE THREE MULTI YEAR FORECASTS FOR THE GENERAL FUND. HERE. AND WE'LL GO THROUGH THE VERSION THIS FIRST VERSION EXCUSE ME PRESENTS OPTION A. AND SO JUST A FEW THINGS TO REMIND YOU OF THE REVENUE PRESENTED HERE IS ALL CURRENT LAW. SO IT, YOU KNOW, AND THERE'S TWO LEGISLATIVE SESSIONS THAT WILL OCCUR DURING THIS MULTI YEAR PERIOD, BUT IT'S ALL BASED ON CURRENT LAW. OUR RECURRING COST ASSUMES A 5% INFLATION IN NON-PAYROLL COSTS THERE. THE 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR IS THE LAST YEAR OF ESSER SUPPLANTING AND THEN THE EXPENDITURE INCREASES. WE TALKED ABOUT AT A PREVIOUS BOARD MEETING THE PROJECT RIGHTSIZE CUTS. THAT IS ONLY THE CUTS THAT THE BOARD HAS TAKEN ACTION ON SO FAR. AND JUST A REMINDER THAT AS MISS BRANUM STATED EARLIER, THERE ARE OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS THAT THE COMMUNITY BUDGET STEERING COMMITTEE MADE. BUT BECAUSE THE BOARD HAS NOT TAKEN ACTION ON THOSE AND NOT GIVEN US DIRECTION, THOSE ARE NOT REFLECTED IN HERE AT THIS TIME. THIS IS JUST A CURRENT STATE FORECAST AND THEN OUR NORMAL TRANSFERS OUT CHANGE IN FUND BALANCE THERE BEFORE THE RAISE AND THEN I'VE LISTED THE RAISE COST PER OPTION A, AND OF COURSE ONCE YOU GRANT THAT RAISE THE COST OF THAT WAS $11.1 MILLION AND THAT CARRIES FORWARD. THAT BECOMES PART OF OUR RECURRING BUDGET EVERY YEAR. BUT I'VE LEFT IT THERE ON ITS OWN LINE SO THAT YOU CAN SEE IT. AND THEN FOR PURPOSES OF THIS FORECAST, I INCLUDED A 3% RAISE EACH FISCAL YEAR THEREAFTER AND HAVE THOSE BROKEN OUT SEPARATELY SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THE IMPACT OF EACH OF THOSE 3% RAISES. THAT IS NOT A GUARANTEE THAT THE BOARD WILL GRANT THOSE RAISES IN THE FUTURE, BUT JUST A PLACEHOLDER, AND THAT 3% RAISE IS THE NORMAL PLACEHOLDER RAISE I USE WHEN STARTING BUDGET CONVERSATIONS. BUT AGAIN, THE ONLY BUDGET THAT THE BOARD WILL ADOPT IN JUNE IS FOR 2425. SO THINGS CAN CHANGE IN THE FUTURE. AND YOU CAN SEE THE CHANGE IN THE FUND BALANCE WITH OPTION C THERE. AND THEN THE IMPACT OF THE CHANGE IN FUND BALANCE ON ALL FUTURE RATE OR ON ALL FUTURE FUND BALANCE BALANCES FOR THE DISTRICT. NEXT SLIDE. THANK YOU. JUST REAL QUICK. I'M SORRY, MR. PATE. OH. SO JUST A COUPLE OF LEVEL SETS ON THIS AS WELL. SO THE FIRST THING IS I WANT TO REITERATE IN THIS MULTI YEAR, WE HAVE TWO LEGISLATIVE SESSIONS IN WHICH THERE ARE AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF UNKNOWNS IN TERMS OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING THAT AUSTIN WILL PROVIDE, WHETHER IT IS TO THE BASIC ALLOTMENT, WHETHER IT IS TO SPECIALIZED AREAS LIKE SAFETY AND SECURITY, SPECIAL EDUCATION. WE'RE HEARING SOME CONVERSATION AROUND A APPETITE TO AT LEAST PROVIDE ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR TEACHER COMPENSATION. SO TWO LEGISLATIVE SESSIONS. ALSO, IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THIS FUND BALANCE DOES NOT INCLUDE WE HAVE PRIOR BOARDS HAVE SET ASIDE A RAINY DAY FUND WHERE WE HAVE A PERMANENT [01:40:05] SCHOOL FUND THAT IS SITTING AT OVER $20 MILLION THAT THE BOARD HAS ACCESS TO IN TIMES WHEN, AS IT'S SET UP AS A RAINY DAY FUND, IF NEEDED. WE ALSO KNOW AS PART OF PROJECT RIGHTSIZE THAT WE ANTICIPATE HAVING ADDITIONAL REVENUE. IT'S ONE TIME REVENUE. WE UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT WE DO ANTICIPATE HAVING ONE TIME REVENUE OF THE SALE OF THE PDC AT BELTLINE AND THE SHERMAN PROPERTY AS WELL. SO I SHARE THAT TO SAY THERE WHY WE'RE LOOKING AT THESE NUMBERS AND WE HAVE TO BE FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE. WE OWE THAT TO OUR COMMUNITY AND TO OUR TAXPAYERS. WE HAVE TO BE AWARE HERE ARE THE POTENTIAL OUTLYING YEARS AND WHAT IT COULD MEAN FOR OUR BUDGET. THERE'S ALSO A WHOLE LOT OF WORK BETWEEN NOW AND THEN, BOTH OUTSIDE AS WELL AS INTERNAL OTHER PARTS OF PROJECT RIGHTSIZE THAT WE KNOW WE CAN IMPLEMENT TO CONTINUE TO BE MORE EFFICIENT SO THAT THIS OUTLYING MULTI YEAR PROJECTION DOESN'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO LOOK LIKE THIS. THIS TO ME IS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO. WE WANT TO BE TRANSPARENT. WE WANT THE BOARD TO BE AWARE. HERE'S WHAT IT COULD LOOK LIKE. BUT WE HAVE CONTROL OF A LOT OF THINGS THAT CAN HELP CHANGE THESE NUMBERS. AS WELL AS WE ALSO KNOW THAT AUSTIN HAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL RESOURCES TO PUBLIC EDUCATION AS WELL. SO I JUST WANTED TO. CREATE A LITTLE BIT OF THAT LEVEL SET AS WE'RE LOOKING AT THESE THREE SCENARIOS. SO OPTION B AND THANK YOU MRS. BRANUM FOR REMINDING ME ABOUT THE LOCAL PERMANENT SCHOOL FUND. I MEANT TO MENTION THAT I WE EVEN HAVE A NOTE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SLIDE. SO OPTION B, EVERYTHING ON OPTION B IS THE SAME WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE COST OF THE RAISE FOR 2024-25. SO YOU'LL SEE 12.7 MILLION AS COMPARED TO THE 11.1 MILLION ON THAT LINE FOR THE OPTION B MULTI YEAR, AND THEN CERTAINLY RECALCULATED A 3% RAISE IN EACH OF THE SUBSEQUENT YEARS 25, 26, 26-27 AND 27-28. AND THE FACT THAT IN ANY ONE YEAR, THE RAISE WE GIVE CARRIES FORWARD INTO ALL FUTURE YEARS. AND AS MS. BRANUM SAID, THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT CAN CHANGE THESE FORECASTS. AND IF YOU GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS MULTI YEAR FORECAST FROM PREVIOUS YEARS, THEY ARE ALL BASED ON THAT, THE STEADY STATE OF THE YEAR FOR THE BUDGET ADOPTION. AND SO THERE'S, YOU KNOW TWO LEGISLATIVE SESSIONS A LOT CAN CHANGE. AND THE FINAL COLUMN THERE 2728 IS NOT NECESSARILY OUR DESTINY. IT IS ONLY WHAT HAPPENS IF NOTHING CHANGES. AND CHRIS NEXT SLIDE THANK YOU. AND THEN OPTION C HERE YOU CAN SEE AGAIN EVERYTHING DOWN TO THE CHANGE IN FUND BALANCE BEFORE RAISE LINE REMAINS THE SAME. AND THEN HERE YOU HAVE THE $18 MILLION COST OF OPTION C WITH A 3% RAISE CALCULATED IN EACH YEAR THEREAFTER. AND THEN THE CHANGE IN FUND BALANCE AFTER THE RAISE WITH A $27 MILLION DEFICIT FOR 24-25 AND FORWARD. BUT AGAIN, A LOT CAN CHANGE IN ANY OF THOSE FUTURE YEARS. AND YOU DO HAVE AT YOUR DISPOSAL THE LOCAL PERMANENT SCHOOL FUND AND PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF PDC AND THE SHERMAN PROPERTY. THANK YOU, DOCTOR GOODSON. THANK YOU, MR. PATE. IN THE LAST BOARD MEETING, WE HAD A QUESTION ABOUT GIVING YOU A KIND OF A SNAPSHOT OF WHAT A TEACHER WITH A CERTAIN NUMBER OF YEARS OF EXPERIENCE COULD EXPECT TO SEE WITH OPTION C. AND SO WHAT I DID IS I JUST TOOK A SAMPLING OF HOWEVER MANY. WHAT IS THAT, EIGHT, NINE. THESE ARE ACTUAL TEACHERS IN THE DISTRICT RIGHT NOW. AND THE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WITH THAT, THEY WOULD HAVE COMPLETED FOR THE START OF THE 2425 SCHOOL YEAR. SO WE HAVE HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAVE ELEMENTARY, SPED, BILINGUAL, ALL LOTS OF DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES. BUT WHAT YOU'LL SEE WITH TEACHER A, A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER WHO WILL HAVE COMPLETED 45 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. THEIR CURRENT SALARY RIGHT NOW IS 90,218. UNDER OPTION C, THEY WOULD BE PLACED AT THE 45 YEAR STEP, WHICH PUTS THEM AT $101,000, WHICH IS AN INCREASE OF $10,782. SO I WON'T GO THROUGH ALL OF THE DIFFERENT EXAMPLES, BUT IT'S JUST A WAY TO SEE WITH THE NUMBER OF YEARS EXPERIENCE. KEEP IN MIND, AND I DO WANT TO SAY THIS SO THAT WE DON'T HAVE A 25 YEAR TEACHER LOOKING AT THIS, THINKING, THAT'S THEM. THIS IS JUST FOR THAT INDIVIDUAL SALARY, RIGHT. SO THERE ARE IT DOESN'T MEAN EVERY 25 YEAR TEACHER IS AT THAT SALARY. IT DEPENDS ON IF THEY WORK FULL TIME OR PART TIME. A LOT OF OTHER VARIABLES COME INTO PLAY. THIS IS STRICTLY A SNAPSHOT WITH FULL TIME TEACHERS IN THESE ROLES. [01:45:02] AND THEN THIS IS JUST THEIR SALARY. SO PART OF OUR PROCESS IN HR AND WORKING WITH PAYROLL IS TO VERIFY YEARS OF SERVICE, PERSON BY PERSON, AND THEN TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SYSTEM CALCULATES THIS NEW STEP THAT THEY'RE GOING TO GO TO. BUT AGAIN, THIS IS JUST AN OVERVIEW, JUST A BRIEF SNAPSHOT OF THE TYPE OF CHANGES THAT COULD HAPPEN. I'LL DRAW YOUR ATTENTION, IF YOU DON'T MIND, TO TEACHER H, IT'S A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER WHO WILL HAVE COMPLETED TEN YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. THEIR CURRENT SALARY IS STATED THERE. THE THE NEW STEP WOULD ONLY BE 66,000. SO IN THIS SITUATION, IF WE JUST HAD THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 66 AND 64 957, THAT'S 1043. AND THAT SITUATION THEY WOULD GET THE GREATER OF WHICH WOULD BE THE 3%. SO THAT'S WHY I INCLUDED IT THERE. WE HAVE MANY WHO WILL BE IN THAT SCENARIO WHERE THEY WILL ACTUALLY GET MORE OF A RAISE WITH THE 3%, BY AND LARGE. WHEN WE LOOKED AT THOSE EXAMPLES IN OUR LAST MEETING, MOSTLY EVERY CATEGORY THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IS GOING TO BENEFIT MORE FROM OPTION C, BUT WE JUST WANT TO BE SURE THAT THE TEACHER, THE T-TYPE, HAS THE GREATER OF THE TWO. SO AGAIN, AS ANOTHER REMINDER AFTER OPTION C, THE COMPARISONS OBVIOUSLY CHANGE. NOW, THIS DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ANY CHANGES THAT THESE OTHER DISTRICTS ARE WORKING INTO THE MIX. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, AGAIN, SEEING OUR POSITION ON THIS CHART GO FROM SIXTH, SIXTH, EIGHTH TO SECOND, SECOND, FIRST, FIRST, FIRST. IT JUST ILLUSTRATES THE THE AGGRESSIVE NATURE OF THIS PLAN, BUT ALSO THE EMPHASIS ON RECRUITING EXPERIENCED TEACHERS AS WELL. AND THAT PUTS US IN A MUCH BETTER POSITION. WHILE ALSO RECOGNIZING OUR CURRENT EXPERIENCED TEACHERS TOO. SO THIS IS OUR ANNUAL REMINDER THAT EMPLOYEE ELIGIBILITY FOR ANY RAISE IS BASED, IS CONTINGENT UPON THE EMPLOYEE RECEIVING A RATING OF AT LEAST MEETS EXPECTATIONS, OR ANOTHER EQUIVALENT RATING AS DETERMINED BY THE APPRAISAL INSTRUMENT ON HIS OR HER 2324 PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL AS REQUIRED BY POLICY DEA LOCAL. I'M SORRY I GOT TO BE THAT HR GUY. ADDITIONALLY, EMPLOYEES NEED TO BE IN A FULL OR PART TIME ALLOCATED POSITION. THE PROPOSED RAISE INCREASE INCLUDES PAY RAISES TO THE CURRENT BASE SALARY AMOUNT FOR TEACHERS, LIBRARIANS, COUNSELORS, AND NURSES, REFERRED TO AS T-TYPES, AND THEN THE INCREASE WOULD BE THE GREATER OF 3% OR THE CORRESPONDING REVISED STEP ON THE NEW TEACHER HIRING SALARY SCHEDULE. AND SO IN REVIEWING NEXT STEPS OUR PLAN IF SHOULD YOU APPROVE OPTION C HERE TONIGHT IS WE WILL HAVE DIRECT COMMUNICATION TO ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES REGARDING THE APPROVED INCREASES. I'LL BE SENDING OUT. WELL, I KNOW MISS BRANUM WOULD BE SENDING OUT COMMUNICATION TO THE EMPLOYEES. I'LL SEND OUT A DIFFERENT KIND OF COMMUNICATION THAT INCLUDES SOME OF THE THE DETAILS AND THE NITTY GRITTY PARTS IN TERMS OF HOW DO I KNOW WHAT KIND OF RAISE I'LL GET. SO WHAT WE'LL INCLUDE IN THAT COMMUNICATION IS A LIST OF ALL OF THE POSITIONS IN THE DISTRICT, AND WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE A T TYPE OR A NON T TYPE, EXEMPT OR NONEXEMPT. AND BECAUSE WE'RE USING OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM, IT, IT CAPTURES EVERY EMPLOYEE. SO WHETHER THERE'S ONE PERSON IN THE POSITION OR 3000 PEOPLE IN THE POSITION, THE TITLE OF THAT PARTICULAR JOB IS WHAT'S INCLUDED ON THAT LIST. AND THEN WE WILL ALSO SHARE WITH EMPLOYEES HOW THEY CAN GO AHEAD AND DO SOME ANTICIPATED CALCULATIONS, IF YOU WILL. THEY CAN GO INTO LIGHT RIGHT NOW AND PULL UP THEIR SALARY VERIFICATION FROM THIS YEAR, AND THEN JUST ADD A YEAR. THAT'S THE NUMBER THAT WE WOULD BE USING TO PLACE THEM ON THE STEP IN THE EMAIL THAT I'LL SEND, IT'LL GIVE ADDITIONAL DIRECTIONS, BUT THEY ACTUALLY ALREADY HAVE ACCESS TO THAT RIGHT NOW. WE'LL CONTINUE. AS MISS BRANUM SAID, WE ARE NOT DONE WITH REVIEWING ALL OF THE OTHER JOBS THAT ARE STILL NEEDING TO BE TARGETED. THAT WORK IS NOT DONE. AND THEN FINALLY WE WILL UPDATE INFORMATION. WE WILL INCLUDE UPDATED INFORMATION IN ALL OF OUR MARKETING, INCLUDING THE WEBSITE, SOCIAL MEDIA AND ALL OF OUR RECRUITING DOCUMENTS. WE ALREADY HAVE DRAFTS GOING, BUT YOU KNOW, WE WANT TO BE READY. ANOTHER ANOTHER AVENUE THAT WE'RE GOING TO TAKE IS WE CAN SEND COMMUNICATION THROUGH OUR APPLICANT TRACKING SYSTEM TO LITERALLY EVERY APPLICANT THAT HAS APPLIED FOR ANY POSITION. AND SO WE CAN INCLUDE THIS UPDATED INFORMATION AND FLIERS IN THE APPLICANT TRACKING SYSTEM AND SEND OUT A MASS EMAIL TO EVERYBODY ELSE. AND SO THAT'S DEFINITELY ANOTHER PART OF OUR NEXT STEPS. SO AGAIN THANK YOU, DOCTOR GIBSON. THANK YOU, MR. PATE. AND WITH THAT I DO RECOMMEND THAT THE BOARD APPROVE THE 24-25 EMPLOYEE COMPENSATION PLAN, OPTION C AS PRESENTED. THANK YOU, DOCTOR GOODSON. THANK YOU, MISS BRANUM BOARD. IS THERE A MOTION? SO MOVED. THANK YOU, MISS TIMME. IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND? THANK YOU, MISS MCGOWAN. THERE IS A MOTION BY MISS TIMMY. A SECOND BY MISS MCGOWAN. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? [01:50:02] BOARD MISS TIMME OKAY, YOU KNOW, I GET VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS. I'M GOING TO TRY TO BEHAVE MYSELF, BUT I REALLY DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. WE'VE SPENT A LOT OF TIME BOTH LIKE OUR LAST SESSION, REALLY TALKING ABOUT IT. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I KNOW THAT WE'VE WANTED TO DO FOR A LONG TIME. AND SO I FEEL LIKE I'VE REALLY TAKEN THE TIME TO KIND OF EDUCATE MYSELF ON THE POTENTIAL OUTCOMES, BUT ALSO THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY THAT WE HAVE TO DO RIGHT AND BALANCE. BUT I DO WANT TO START WITH THANKING YOU, MISS BRANUM, YOUR TEAM WHO WORKED ON THIS, AND FOR BEING WILLING TO BRING A BOLD SCENARIO UP TO US, GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO TO VOTE ON THIS, BUT ALSO TO MATCH YOUR WORDS OF HOW MUCH YOU CARE FOR TEACHERS AND HOW MUCH THE IMPACT THAT YOU KNOW THAT THEY HAVE WITH YOUR ACTIONS. THAT IS FANTASTIC. AND I HOPE EVERYBODY WHO BENEFITS FROM THIS AND THOSE IN FUTURE YEARS WHO ALSO WILL, AS WE WORK TO ADDRESS THE AREAS THAT WE AREN'T ABLE TO AT THIS FIRST TIME, UNDERSTAND AND WILL KNOW THAT. SO I CERTAINLY APPRECIATE THAT. AND I WANT TO BE SURE THAT WE DO THAT. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MANY EMAILS, TEXTS, CONVERSATIONS I'VE HAD OF PEOPLE QUITTING SECOND JOBS. ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO STAY IN THE CLASSROOM, WANTING TO STAY IN TEACH LONGER, TELLING THEIR FRIENDS THAT THEY WANT TO COME, THEY SHOULD COME TO RICHARDSON ISD BECAUSE OF HOW MUCH WE WANT TO TAKE CARE OF OUR TEACHERS. LIKE IT'S SUCH A GAME CHANGER FOR ME IN THIS MOMENT, SO I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT. I HOPE BECAUSE IT'S SO BOLD, YOU GUYS LEAN INTO THAT MARKETING HARD. THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO LEAN IN HARD. I WANT THE MOST ROBUST POOL. I WANT EVERYBODY TO WANT TO COME TO RICHARDSON ISD AND EVERY PRINCIPAL TO HAVE THE OPTION TO CHOOSE THE VERY BEST PEOPLE OUT OF THAT. BECAUSE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THAT CLASSROOM IS THAT IN STUDENTS DOING WELL, OUTCOMES, ALL THE THINGS, OUR TEACHERS. AND SO WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT IF WE WANT THAT ENVIRONMENT, THAT WE CREATE IT, AND IT STARTS WITH HAVING THE VERY BEST PEOPLE IN THAT CLASSROOM. WHAT I CAN SAY IS ALSO, I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT I MADE ON ANY STATE TEST. I DON'T REMEMBER A LOT OF THINGS THAT THAT WE PROBABLY TALK ABOUT A LOT HERE. BUT I DO REMEMBER THE TEACHERS WHO MADE A DIFFERENCE. AND I BET ANYBODY IN HERE WHO HEARS THIS CAN REMEMBER THOSE TEACHERS THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR WORLD AND SPURRED THEM ON AND LIKE THAT. I MEAN, THAT'S WHAT WE REMEMBER. AND WE HAVE TO REALIZE THEIR IMPACT IS NOT JUST ON OUTCOMES, BUT IT IS ON OUTCOMES AND SCORES. IT'S ON THE OUTCOMES OF HUMANS. AND IT IS SO WORTH THE INVESTMENT. JUST A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS. OH, ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS I WANT TO SAY, I THINK THIS BOLD MOVE ALLOWS TEACHERS TO STAY IN THE CLASSROOM AND NOT BE FORCED INTO ADMIN IF THAT'S NOT WHERE THEY WANT TO GO, BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO. NOW, IF THIS PASSES, INCREASE THEIR EARNING POWER BY STAYING IN THE CLASSROOM AND THOSE WHO WANT TO AND FEEL CALLED TO LEAD SCHOOLS AND LEAD IN DIFFERENT AREAS ALSO HAVE THAT OPTION TOO. I WANT THAT FOR ALL OF OUR PEOPLE. I WANT I'M SO THANKFUL THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT INVESTING IN OUR VETERAN TEACHERS. I WANT THEM TO HEAR HOW MUCH WE'RE APPRECIATED AND HOW MUCH THAT WE WANT TO DO THAT. AND WHEN I CAST MY VOTE, I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THEN I'M GOING TO REMEMBER MY FAVORITE TEACHERS FROM RICHARDSON ISD. I GRADUATED FROM HERE. I AM GOING TO NAME A FEW, SO BEAR WITH ME. MR. A.T. SHOEMAKER, WHO WAS MY SIXTH GRADE TEACHER AT BOWIE ELEMENTARY. MISS FAYE BARNETT, WHO WAS ONE OF MY HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS AT RICHARDSON HIGH SCHOOL. MY OWN PARENTS, MARNI AND JERRY BISHOP, WHO WERE BOTH TEACHERS. MY DAD WENT ON INTO ADMINISTRATION, BUT MY MOM RETIRED AS A LIBRARIAN FROM HERE. TEACHERS LIKE AND I WILL, AND THESE ARE NOT ALL OF THEM. BUT LIKE MARK JOHNSON, WHO IS A CURRENT TEACHER AT PEARCE HIGH SCHOOL WHO SPENDS TWO HOURS EVERY DAY WITH MY OLDEST CHILD WHO GRADUATED FIVE YEARS AGO, HELPING WORK HIM OUT WHILE HE RECOVERS FROM AN INJURY, BECAUSE HE CARES. JUST BECAUSE HE CARES, HE DOESN'T GET ANYTHING FROM THAT. THERE ARE A LOT OF TEACHERS LIKE THAT. I'M GOING TO THINK ABOUT MR. GIBSON, DOCTOR GIBSON, WHO WAS A KINDERGARTEN TEACHER WHO I TAUGHT WITH, AND ALSO A FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE TEACHER AT HAMILTON PARK AND WAS FANTASTIC. MR. MATTHEW GIBBONS, WHO WAS OVER AT NORTHWOOD HILLS WHEN TEACHING IN OUR BEHAVIOR UNIT, WE HAD SOME STUDENTS WHO REALLY, REALLY NEEDED SOME EXTRA SUPPORT. AND CAN I TELL YOU, HE MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE FOR THOSE KIDS AND ALL THE TEACHERS THAT I HAVE HAD THE HONOR OF WORKING WITH, OR THAT I HAVE BEEN AN ADMINISTRATOR TO, WHO'VE MADE OUR SCHOOLS BETTER WHEN I CAST MY VOTE, THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT I WILL BE THINKING OF AND THANKFUL FOR, AND HOPE THAT THEY FEEL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT FROM US, FROM YOU GUYS AND AS THEY GO FORWARD. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MISS TIMMY. THAT WAS GREAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH, MR. POTEET. YES. A COUPLE OF QUICK QUESTIONS AND A COUPLE OF COMMENTS. JUST AND SO AND WE MAY NOT KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS YET. SO MANY VARIABLES IN THE FUTURE, BUT IF THE STATE DOES GIVE COMPENSATION OR MONEY FOR TEACHER COMPENSATION, HOW DOES THAT WORK FOR US? [01:55:07] LIKE HOW DO WE ADDRESS THAT? WHAT LEVEL IS THAT? HOW DOES THAT WORK? SO IT'S ALL DEPENDENT UPON HOW THEY WRITE THE LEGISLATION. AND EACH TIME THEY HAVE DONE IT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENTLY. MR. PATE WILL YOU ADDRESS THE LAST TIME I BELIEVE IT WAS IN HOUSE BILL THREE, WHEN SO MUCH OF WHAT WE WERE GIVEN HAD TO BE COMMITTED TO TEACHER COMPENSATION. WILL YOU ADDRESS A LITTLE BIT OF THAT? SURE. THE WAY THE LEGISLATION WAS WRITTEN, IT WAS BASED ON THE INCREASE IN THE BASIC ALLOTMENT AND A CERTAIN PORTION AND I FORGET THE PERCENTAGES RIGHT NOW, BUT A CERTAIN PORTION OF THE INCREASE IN THE BASIC ALLOTMENT HAD TO BE USED ON COMPENSATION. AND THAT TOTAL WITHIN THAT TOTAL, A CERTAIN PORTION OF THAT HAD TO BE USED FOR TEACHERS, LIBRARIANS, COUNSELORS AND NURSES. AND WE WERE EXCLUDED FROM USING ANY OF THAT SALARY PORTION FOR ADMINISTRATORS. AND THERE WERE CERTAIN CATEGORIES THERE THAT WE COULD NOT USE IT ON. THAT TIME, I, IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, OUR NORMAL RAISE PLAN OF AT LEAST OF 3% WOULD HAVE COMPLIED WITH THAT. I BELIEVE IN THAT YEAR WE DID A LITTLE MORE THAN JUST A FLAT 3%, BUT A 3% RAISE WOULD HAVE MET ALL THE REQUIREMENTS IN THAT PARTICULAR CASE. OKAY, GREAT. I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF VARIABLES THERE, AND WE CAN ONLY CONTROL WHAT WE CAN CONTROL, BUT I KNOW THAT'S BEEN BROUGHT UP ALL THROUGH THE LAST LEGISLATIVE SESSION. I'M JUST KIND OF CURIOUS ON HOW THAT'S RECEIVED. AND WE DON'T KNOW RIGHT NOW. THANK YOU. ONE THING AND I KIND OF TOUCHED ON THIS IN THE WORK SESSION TWO WEEKS AGO AS WE ESTIMATE OUT THE COST OF THIS THAT COST IS DIRECTLY DEPENDENT ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE SENIORITY OF OUR TEACHERS, BECAUSE. AND WHERE THEY FALL WITHIN THAT PLAN. AND I KNOW DOCTOR GOODSON HAD MENTIONED WHERE A LOT OF OUR TEACHERS WILL FALL IN THERE. AND SO I THINK LIKE I MENTIONED, AS WE GO FORWARD, OUR HOPE IS THAT IT COSTS US MORE THAT WE HAVE OUR DISTRIBUTION SHIFTS TO A LOT MORE VETERAN TEACHERS THAT MAKE MORE MONEY IN THE DISTRICT, AND THAT'S A COST THAT WE'RE FULLY WILLING TO TAKE ON BECAUSE IT'S WORTH IT. SO I THINK THAT AS WE LOOK AT THESE FORECASTS AND KIND OF LOOK AT HOW THAT I THINK THAT'S A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF HOW THOSE NUMBERS ARE CREATED, IS WHAT THAT DISTRIBUTION OF TEACHERS IS AND WHERE WE WANT TO GO WITH THAT. SO THAT'S JUST SOMETHING THAT I WANTED TO BRING TO LIGHT IN PUBLIC HERE. I CAN'T SPEAK FOR FUTURE BOARDS. WE CAN ONLY TALK ABOUT THE BOARD THAT WE'RE ON RIGHT NOW AND THE DECISIONS THAT WE'RE MAKING. BUT I WANT TO SAY THAT FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE, THE DAYS OF RISD TEACHER PAY, STAFF PAY, BEING IN THE BOTTOM, THIRD, BOTTOM QUARTILE OF ALL OF OUR PEER DISTRICTS IS OVER. IT NEEDS TO BE DONE. WE NEED TO BE DONE WITH THAT. WE NEED TO BE DONE WITH BEING OKAY WITH THAT. AND I KNOW PREVIOUS BOARDS HAVE HAD VERY LEGITIMATE REASONS TO MAKE THE DECISIONS THAT THEY DID, BUT I WANT TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY AS THIS BOARD TO BE DONE WITH THAT AND SET A NEW PATH FORWARD ON WHERE WE'RE GOING TO PUT OUR RESOURCES. AND I MENTIONED THIS IN THE WORK SESSION AS WELL, IS YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT A PRIORITY IS OF A DISTRICT. YOU LOOK AT WHERE THE RESOURCES ARE COMMITTED AND THAT QUICKLY BECOMES THE REPUTATION. AND I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE ASKED, YOU KNOW, WHAT WHAT MAKES RISD UNIQUE, YOU KNOW, AND SOME PARENTS HAVE SAID, YOU KNOW, WE USED TO HAVE A WHAT WAS IT, A PLANETARIUM? WE USED TO HAVE THINGS THAT, YOU KNOW, THESE UNIQUE ITEMS THAT KIND OF SET ASIDE RISD FROM OTHER DISTRICTS. AND I WANT IT TO BE THIS I WANT IT TO BE WE'RE UNIQUE BECAUSE WE TAKE CARE OF OUR TEACHERS. WE LEAD THE WAY WITH TAKING CARE OF OUR STAFF. THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO BE KNOWN FOR, AND THAT'S WHAT I WANT A REPUTATION TO BE. AND SO I HATE IT. BUT WE MAY BE TYING FUTURE BOARDS THAT I HOPE I'M A PART OF TO THAT. BUT THAT'S A COMMITMENT THAT I THINK WE'RE WILLING TO MAKE RIGHT NOW. SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY THOSE DAYS OF BEING IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL NEED TO BE DONE. SO I ALSO MENTIONED THIS, AND I GUESS I'M REPEATING MYSELF FROM THE WORK SESSION, BUT I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO DO THE DO. SO IF WE'RE GOING TO CALL TEACHING A PROFESSION, LET'S TREAT TEACHERS LIKE PROFESSIONALS AND LET'S PAY THEM LIKE PROFESSIONALS. THERE'S NO OTHER INDUSTRY OUT THERE THAT WE TAKE FOR GRANTED A PROFESSION AND THEN GIVE THEM LESS RESOURCES THAN THEIR DUE. IT'S AN IMPORTANT PROFESSION TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US, TO THE FUTURE OF OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STATE, OUR NATION. SO LET'S TREAT THEM LIKE PROFESSIONALS. AND I THINK SOME OF THESE MOVES THAT WE'RE POTENTIALLY MAKING TONIGHT WILL HELP SHOW THAT THESE ARE PROFESSIONALS AND WE WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROFESSIONALS WITHIN THE DISTRICT. AND ONE THING THAT I KIND OF THOUGHT OF WAS I WATCHED A 60 MINUTES AND THIS IS KIND OF RANDOM A LONG TIME AGO, AND I THINK IT WAS ON [02:00:07] MALAYSIA OR INDONESIA. I CAN'T REMEMBER NOW WHERE, BUT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT TEACHER PAY IN THOSE COUNTRIES, AND THESE TEACHERS WERE MAKING THE EQUIVALENT OF WHAT DOCTORS WERE MAKING. AND THE WHOLE POINT WAS, YOU ARE, YOU'RE YOUR PRIORITIES ARE WHERE YOUR RESOURCES GO. AND I REMEMBER SEEING THAT AND THINKING, AND I GET IT, IT'S A DIFFERENT SIZED COUNTRY. THERE'S ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENCES. BUT IT JUST STUCK OUT TO ME SAYING, LOOK, THIS COUNTRY, THEY'RE WALKING THE WALK. THEY'RE NOT JUST TALKING IT. AND THAT STOOD OUT. AND AGAIN IN TURKEY, I SAW ANOTHER THING AND TEACHERS ACROSS THE BOARD IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY, THEY GET DISCOUNTS AT HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, AND THAT'S MANDATED. AND I GET IT. YOU KNOW, MANDATING THOSE KIND OF THINGS IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT THING. AND IN OUR COUNTRY. BUT IT JUST SHOWED, AGAIN, THE PRIORITY THAT OTHER PLACES ARE PUTTING IN THE PROFESSION OF EDUCATION. AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I WANT EVEN IN OUR LITTLE PIECE OF THE WORLD HERE IN RSD, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO PULL THOSE LEVERS THAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE TO TRY AND MATCH WHAT THOSE COUNTRIES ARE DOING AND WHAT THEY'RE DOING THERE. I KNOW MISS TIMME MENTIONED THE NORTH STAR. YOU KNOW, THIS ALL GOES BACK TO THE NORTH STAR. WE TALKED ABOUT FOCUS. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE NORTH STAR. AND THERE IS NO NORTH STAR WITHOUT QUALITY TEACHERS. AND SO IF WE'RE COMMITTED TO WHAT'S ON THAT BOARD BEHIND US AND WHAT WE MENTIONED, EVERY MEETING WE'RE IN. WE IT STARTS AND ENDS WITH THAT TEACHER IN THE CLASSROOM, SO WE HAVE TO COMMIT TO THAT. SO THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT. JUST WANT TO MAKE THOSE COMMENTS. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. POTEET. SO WHAT I HEAR YOU SAYING IS THAT OTHER BOARDS HAVE SOME PRETTY BIG SHOES TO FILL. YES. YOU'RE GOING TO STAY.. GIDDY UP. YEP. THAT'S RIGHT. ALL RIGHT. GO AHEAD, MISS MCGOWAN, THEN I'LL GET YOU MS. RENTERÍA. BECAUSE WE'RE JUST GOING TO GO AROUND THIS TABLE BECAUSE WE'RE ALL REALLY EXCITED TO SHARE THIS TONIGHT. AND I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING, MISTER POTEET. MISS TIMME HAVE ALREADY SAID AND HE ALREADY SAID SOME OF THE THINGS I WANTED TO SAY. SO I WANT TO CONTINUE ON WITH THAT WITH A LITTLE ADDITIONAL AND JUST ALSO SAYING THAT I'M EXCITED ABOUT THIS VOTE, AND THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING VOTES I'VE HAD THIS YEAR, BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT CHANGING LIVES. IT'S ABOUT CREATING AND MAKING SOMETHING A PRIORITY THAT MOST OF OUR DISTRICTS DON'T DO IN THIS COUNTRY. AND LIKE MISTER POTEET SAID, IT IS. THIS SHOULD BE OUR PRIORITY IN OUR COUNTRY, OUR KIDS, OUR TEACHERS, OUR PARENTS, OUR FAMILIES. THIS IS WHAT MAKES THE CHANGE. AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE LIKE, I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR TEACHERS DO NOT LACK ON TRAINING RESOURCES AND TOOLS FOR THE CLASSROOMS. WE DO THIS AND WE DO MORE, RIGHT? I FEEL LIKE THIS IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. WE I DON'T EVEN FEEL LIKE WE ARE. WE'RE STILL NOT THERE YET, RIGHT? IF I HAD IT MY WAY, IT WOULD BE MORE. BUT I UNDERSTAND WE HAVE TO TAKE THIS IN STEPS. BUT AGAIN, I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING. AND WE DO CONTINUE TO MAKE SURE OUR TEACHERS HAVE MORE, MORE MONEY AND THAT THE RESOURCES AND TOOLS AND THE TRAINING IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR THOSE TEACHERS IN THOSE CLASSROOMS. AND THE SUPPORTS ARE THERE IN PLACE BECAUSE OUR MOST PRECIOUS, VALUABLE ASSETS AND THOSE ARE IN THEIR HANDS EVERY SINGLE DAY. SO I THANK YOU AGAIN. LIKE MISS TIMME SAID, THANK YOU FOR LEADING THIS CHARGE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TEAM, FOR HAVING THE BRAVERY TO PUT THIS FORTH. AND LIKE MISTER POTEET SAID, THESE DAYS ARE OVER. IF WE ARE PART OF THIS BOARD, THE DAYS OF OUR TEACHERS BEING NOT COMPENSATED THE WAY THEY SHOULD BE, NOT HELD AS PROFESSIONALS AS WE SHOULD DO, NOT HELD TO THAT STANDARD AND STANDARDS SHOULD RAISE TO RIGHT IN THE CLASSROOMS. WE'RE PAYING YOU. WE WANT HIGHER STANDARDS AND OUR KIDS SHOULD HAVE HIGHER STANDARDS. THEY WALK IN THE CLASSROOM AND THOSE TEACHERS EXUDE PROFESSIONALISM. AND THOSE KIDS KNOW THAT WE MUST RESPECT THE BOSS THAT'S IN THIS CLASSROOM. IT ALL CHANGES, TO ME, THE GAME CHANGES. SO CONGRATULATIONS. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRINGING THIS FORTH. AND I'M ALL ABOUT THAT SCENE. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, MS. RENTERÍA. ABSOLUTELY. AGAIN, I HAVE TO DITTO WHAT MY COLLEAGUES HAVE SAID ALREADY. I THINK ABOUT WHAT MISTER POTEET JUST SAID, BUT ABSOLUTELY, I THINK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, YOU PAY WHAT YOU PRIORITIZE FOR. AND I THINK THAT THIS OPTION C DEFINITELY SAYS THAT I THINK WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE. THIS IS A PRIORITY. AND DEFINITELY YOU PAY WHAT YOU PRIORITIZE. ALSO, YOU KNOW, TO WHAT MISS TIMME SAID THIS IS NOT ONLY VERY IMPORTANT, BUT IT IS AN INVESTMENT. IT IS AN INVESTMENT THAT IS JUST SO, SO WORTH IT. I DID HAVE A QUESTION ON THE T-TYPES. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE, I KNOW WE SAID TEACHERS, LIBRARIANS, COUNSELORS AND NURSES, BUT I WANTED TO KNOW IS THERE ANY RANGE OR TYPE WITHIN THOSE TYPES? LIKE, IS THAT ALL COUNSELORS? IS IT ALL NURSES? OKAY, I WASN'T SURE BECAUSE I KNOW SOMETIMES IN THE TEACHERS THEY MIGHT VARY IN THE TYPE OF TEACHER THEY ARE OR LIKE EVEN COUNSELORS. [02:05:06] I THINK WE HAVE CRISIS, THE CRISIS COUNSELORS, WE HAVE OUR OUR CLASS COUNSELORS. BUT A COUNSELOR IS A COUNSELOR. A TEACHER IS A TEACHER. RIGHT. OKAY. SO THAT MEANS THAT ALL OF THAT IS COVERED. OKAY. PERFECT. NO. THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR THAT. NO, FOR MYSELF TOO. I JUST THINK THAT THIS IS SUPER, SUPER IMPORTANT. I THINK THAT IT'S NOT ONLY IMPORTANT AND SO NEEDED FOR OUR TEACHERS, FOR OUR STUDENTS. BUT I THINK ABOUT HOW FOR OUR NEW AND YOUNG AND OUR STARTING OUT TEACHERS. RIGHT. HOW MUCH WE NEED THOSE VETERAN TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM. WE NEED THEM FOR THEIR EXPERIENCE, THEIR WISDOM AND THE MENTORSHIP, THE MENTORSHIP THAT IS SO, SO NEEDED TO CONTINUE THAT LEGACY OF THAT VERY PROFESSION THAT WE CARE SO MUCH ABOUT. I THINK THAT IT'S OUR STUDENTS DESERVE THIS LEVEL OF EDUCATIONAL EXPERTISE THAT WE'RE GOING TO BRING WITH THESE VETERAN TEACHERS AND OUR TEACHERS. OUR VETERAN TEACHERS DESERVE TO BE RIGHTFULLY COMPENSATED. SO, AGAIN, JUST THANK YOU. THANK YOU TO YOUR TEAM. THANK YOU, TABITHA, FOR HAVING THAT BOLD IDEA AND FOR JUST STANDING FIRM WITH THAT. AND I'M SUPER EXCITED AS MY COLLEAGUES THAT HAVE ALREADY SPOKEN HAVE ALSO EXPRESSED. AND YES, I'M SUPER EXCITED TO TAKE THIS VOTE. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU SO MUCH, MISS PACHECO. OKAY. I'M SORRY. I WAS WAITING FOR MR. EAGER. ALL RIGHT. YES. I'M SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS OPTION. I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU, MISS BRANUM AND YOUR TEAM TO WHO CAME UP WITH THIS BOLD SOLUTION TO ENSURE THAT OUR PROFESSIONALS HAD WELL-PAID, YOU KNOW, JOB. AND LIKE MISS MCGOWAN SAID, IT'S THE FIRST PART, AND I KNOW WE HAVE MORE TO DO, BUT I'M JUST SUPER EXCITED. YOU MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS 55% OF OUR PERSONNEL, AND THAT'S A HUGE NUMBER. BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT THIS 55% TAKES CARE AND SPENDS COUNTLESS OF HOURS WITH 100% OF OUR STUDENTS, AND THAT'S IMPORTANT. AND I SO APPRECIATE THEIR TIME, THEIR EFFORTS, THEIR PATIENCE, THEIR LOVE, THEIR KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY IMPART ON EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE KIDS. MY KIDS WERE HERE. I THANK EVERY TEACHER THAT HELPED SHAPE THEM AND TEACH THEM TO BE WHO THEY ARE TODAY. SO. AND ANY TEACHER, EVERY TEACHER, EVERYWHERE. SO. BUT HEY, YOU KNOW, I WANT THEM TO COME HERE. SO THANK YOU FOR THAT. I KNOW THAT YOU'VE MENTIONED THIS MANY, MANY TIMES. IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE EXPERIENCED TEACHERS. WHY? BECAUSE WE NEED TO HAVE STUDENT OUTCOMES, RIGHT? AND EXPERIENCED TEACHERS CAN MENTOR AND CAN ALSO MAKE SURE THAT OUR STUDENTS EXCEL IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY THAT THEY CAN. SO WE MEET OUR GOAL. JUST SUPER EXCITED ABOUT IT. I'M GLAD WE'RE HERE. I'M GLAD WE'RE FINALLY AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. SO THAT'S THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY. I'M EXCITED. THANKS. THANK YOU, MISS PACHECO. MR. EAGER. YOU KNOW, I'M NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO ADD MUCH TO WHAT MY COLLEAGUES HAVE ALREADY SAID. THE ONLY THING I CAN SHARE IS THE STORIES. THAT I THAT I'VE HEARD SINCE SINCE YOU WERE, YOU KNOW, AND THE TEAM WERE BOLD ENOUGH TO BRING IT FORWARD. YOU KNOW, STAR TEACHERS THAT I KNOW SAYING THEY'RE WORKING SECOND JOBS. THEY'RE THE STORIES OF TEACHERS GETTING WORRIED ABOUT PAYING TUITION FOR THEIR OWN KIDS. THE THE STORIES OF THE INCREDIBLE FRUSTRATION OF SAYING, I'VE BEEN HERE TEN YEARS AND I MAKE. COUPLE THOUSAND DOLLARS AND SOMEBODY JUST CAME IN. AND IT'S JUST THESE STORIES THAT. THERE'S A DIRECT CORRELATION TO WHAT WE'VE SAID AND WHAT YOU PUT YOUR RESOURCES TO, BUT IT'S ALSO. YOU KNOW, THERE'S. TEACHERS. THE SUCCESS OF OUR KIDS STOPS AND STARTS DIRECTLY WITH OUR TEACHERS. AND. YOU KNOW OUR KIDS DESERVE IT AND THESE TEACHERS DESERVE IT. THEY ABSOLUTELY DESERVE IT. AND YEAH, I'M PROUD TO SAY THAT. THAT THAT ENDS NOW. YOU KNOW, I'M JUST GOING TO REPEAT WHAT MY TEAM. I'M PROUD OF THIS. I'M PROUD OF OUR TEAM BECAUSE YEAH, IT'S RISKY. LET ME TELL YOU, I GOT I GOT MY LITTLE BEANCOUNTER HAT ON AND IT'S A LITTLE RISKY. I WILL GIVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO, FOR OUR, OUR PARENTS OUT THERE WATCHING I LET ME REMIND THEM THAT OUR FRIENDS DOWN IN AUSTIN HAVE $4.5 BILLION SITTING THERE, AND THEY'RE ABOUT TO GO INTO SESSION AGAIN. [02:10:06] AND THEY HAD $35 BILLION SURPLUS LAST TIME. THIS TIME THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE $20 BILLION. SO PAY ATTENTION. BECAUSE WE'RE DOING THE RIGHT THING HERE AND THEY NEED TO DO THE RIGHT THING. SO I DON'T NEED TO GO ON AND ON ABOUT, YOU KNOW WHAT? WHAT? THEY DESERVE IT. MY COLLEAGUES HAVE ALREADY SAID WHAT I THINK, AND I'M PROUD OF THE TEAM AND WHAT WE'RE DOING. AND YOU KNOW, I THINK WITH THIS TEAM, WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED. I THINK THAT RISD IS GOING TO BE THAT, YOU KNOW. BUT IT'S GOING TO BE THE DESTINATION DISTRICT. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE COMING HERE BECAUSE WE PUT OUR MONEY WHERE OUR MOUTH IS. WE DO EVERYTHING WE CAN. WE MAKE THE TOUGH CALLS, BUT IT'S ALL FOR OUR KIDS AND IT'S, YOU KNOW, OUR KIDS DESERVE AND OUR TEACHERS DESERVE IT. SO, YOU KNOW, WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED. MS. BRANUM I JUST WANT TO FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU ALL. BUT I ALSO WANT TO EXTEND THAT GRATITUDE BACK TO YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE CREATED A SAFE ENVIRONMENT WHERE WE CAN HAVE REAL AND AUTHENTIC CONVERSATIONS. THEY MAY NOT ALWAYS BE EASY. WE MAY NOT ALWAYS BE ABLE TO DO ALL THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO, BUT WE CAN PUT IT OUT THERE AND WE CAN HAVE THAT CONVERSATION SO THAT PEOPLE KNOW WE SEE YOU, WE HEAR YOU AND THAT, THAT THAT'S GAME CHANGING. I ALSO JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S NOTED THAT THIS BOARD, YOU ALL HAVE FOLLOWED THROUGH ON THIS COMMITMENT, NOT JUST WITH THIS VOTE. WE HAVE EMPLOYEE DAYCARES. WE'RE ABOUT TO OPEN OUR THIRD IN JANUARY. WE HAVE EMPLOYEE PRE-K. AGAIN, BOTH OF THOSE TUITIONS, I WE ARE NUMBER ONE. I FIRMLY BELIEVE WE ARE NUMBER ONE WITH ANY COMPARING, ANY TUITION RATE ANYWHERE FOR EDUCATORS. WE HAVE OUR EMPLOYEE WELLNESS CLINIC. WE HAVE OUR OUR EMPLOYEE SERVICE CLINIC FOR MENTAL HEALTH, LIKE YOU ALL HAVE PUT RESOURCES TO SUPPORT ALL STAFF. THOSE RESOURCES ARE FOR ALL STAFF. OUR EMPLOYEE DAYCARE IS FOR ALL AUXILIARY STAFF, FOR ANY EMPLOYEES, OUR WELLNESS CLINIC OR FOR ALL EMPLOYEES, OUR MATERNITY AND PATERNITY LEAVE. THOSE THINGS CAN IMPACT ALL EMPLOYEES. AND YOU ALL HAVE COMMITTED TO THAT, NOT JUST WITH THIS VOTE OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. YOU HAVE COMMITTED BY ENSURING THAT THIS TEAM PUTS OUR STAFF IN FRONT. YOU'VE ALSO CHARGED US, AND I THINK THIS WAS A REALLY IMPORTANT POINT. YOU MADE, MISS MCGOWAN, THAT IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT COMPENSATION. COMPENSATION IS A BIG PART OF IT. WE KNOW THAT, BUT IT'S ALSO ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT. AND WE HEARD A TEACHER EARLIER. IT'S HARD BEING A TEACHER, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS RIGHT NOW THAT OUR TEACHERS ARE ASKED TO DO EVERY SINGLE DAY. AND SO WHETHER WE'RE TALKING ABOUT STILL TRYING TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE CELL PHONES AND OTHER THINGS ARE NOT A DISTRACTION. WE ARE GOING TO BE AT OUR NEXT MEETING TALKING TO YOU AT LENGTH ABOUT STUDENT BEHAVIOR AND HOW DO WE HELP SUPPORT STUDENTS WHO ARE IN CRISIS AND HOW DO WE CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THEIR WELLNESS? BUT SO THAT BEHAVIOR AND DISCIPLINE IS IS IS ADDRESSED IN A WAY THAT ALLOWS TEACHER TO FOCUS ON WHAT THEY WANT TO FOCUS ON, WHICH IS TEACHING AND LEARNING. WE'RE NOT GOING TO ALL GET THERE IN YEAR ONE, BUT WE ARE STEP BY STEP WITH YOUR SUPPORT, WITH THIS AMAZING STAFF HERE AND ON OUR CAMPUSES, WE ARE STEP BY STEP. GOING TO BE OUR IDENTITY IS GOING TO BE WHAT YOU ALL HAVE SET IN THAT NORTH STAR GOAL. AND SO THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING THAT SUPPORT IN THOSE RESOURCES AND THAT CREATING THAT CHARGE. IT'S A CRYSTAL CLEAR CHARGE. ALL WE ARE VERY CRYSTAL CLEAR ON WHERE WE'RE GOING AND WHAT THAT OUTCOME NEEDS TO LOOK LIKE. AND I JUST I THANK YOU ALL FOR CREATING THAT ENVIRONMENT. ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU SO MUCH. SO EVERYTHING THAT MY COLLEAGUES HERE SAID. ABSOLUTELY. DITTO. DITTO, DITTO. THERE IS ONE THING THAT MISS TIMME ACTUALLY SAID THAT REALLY RESONATES WITH ME. SHE MENTIONED THAT SHE'S GOING TO MAKE HER VOTE BECAUSE OF SOME OF HER PAST TEACHERS. I CAN NAME EVERY ONE OF MY TEACHERS FROM K THROUGH SIXTH GRADE IN HAMILTON PARK BY FIRST NAME AND LAST NAME, BEGINNING WITH MISS TITA SMITH IN FIRST GRADE AND MR. MIKE MURPHY IN SIXTH GRADE BECAUSE THEY MADE AN IMPACT. AND THEY WEREN'T JUST OLD BECAUSE I WAS A KID, BUT THEY REALLY DID HAVE SOME YEARS ON THEM. THEY HAD SOME YEARS. THEY HAD A HUGE IMPACT ON ME. I REMEMBER MR. STRACK AT NORTHWOOD JUNIOR HIGH, P.T BROWN, WHO TAUGHT US HOW TO ENUNCIATE OUR WORDS. AND SO THOSE THINGS ARE SUPER IMPORTANT. AND THOSE ARE THE EXPERIENCES THAT I WANT OUR STUDENTS TO HAVE HERE IN RICHARDSON ISD. [02:15:04] THOSE TEACHERS CARED ABOUT US AND THEY TOOK TEACHING VERY SERIOUSLY. AND THAT IS ABSOLUTELY WHAT WE NEED AND WHAT I WANT. SO THERE IS A MOTION BY MISS TIMME, A SECOND BY MISS MCGOWAN. ALL IN FAVOR, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HANDS REAL HIGH. MOTION PASSES SEVEN ZERO. WOULD YOU? OKAY. GO AHEAD. YEAH, I'M NOT SURE. ARE WE TOO EXCITED TO MOVE ON AND TALK ABOUT AN INTRUDER REPORT? YES. ALL RIGHT. GREAT. ALL RIGHT. OUR NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS AN INFORMATION ITEM REGARDING THE INTRUDER AUDITS. [IV.E. Intruder Audit] MS. BRANUM. THIS IS EQUALLY EXCITING BECAUSE FIRST AND FOREMOST, OUR CAMPUSES NEED TO BE SAFE IF OUR TEACHERS AND OUR STUDENTS CAN FOCUS ON LEARNING. SO, MISS HAYES. THANK YOU. I'M NOT SURE I REALLY WANTED TO FOLLOW THAT UP, BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS THIS IS MY LAST PRESENTATION ON INTRUDER AUDITS. WE'RE 100% COMPLETE. ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES HAVE BEEN AUDITED. WE DO HAVE TO REPORT ONE ADDITIONAL CAMPUS THAT HAD A FINDING. BERKNER HIGH SCHOOL, UNFORTUNATELY, HAD ONE DOOR THAT WAS LEFT UNLOCKED. AND SO WE DID HAVE ONE FINDING THERE. SO WE'LL WORK WITH THAT CAMPUS, GET SOME ADDITIONAL TRAINING AND TURN IN THAT PAPERWORK. AND WE ARE DONE WITH INTRUDER AUDITS FOR 2324. THANK YOU. ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? ALL RIGHT. OUR NEXT ITEM IS AN INFORMATION ITEM TO REVIEW AND DISCUSS BOARD POLICY GF LOCAL. [IV.F. Review and Discuss Board Policy: GF (LOCAL)] THANK YOU, PRESIDENT HARRIS. MISS MCGOWAN. I WAS LIKE, I KNOW IT FEELS A LITTLE BIT LIKE A SETUP HAVING TO COME AFTER THE TEACHER COMPENSATION. GF, IS OUR PUBLIC COMMENTS, OUR PUBLIC COMPLAINTS POLICY. IT'S A GRIEVANCE POLICY FOR MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC. IF YOU'LL RECALL, WE MADE UPDATES TO BOARD POLICIES F AND G AND DGBA IN FEBRUARY THIS YEAR. AND SO THE CHANGES THAT ARE BEFORE THE BOARD ARE TO ALIGN WITH THE CHANGES THAT WERE MADE. AND SO THEY INCLUDE CLARIFYING WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DAYS, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT BUSINESS RATHER THAN CALENDAR DAYS. ALSO THAT WHILE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC CAN CERTAINLY COMMUNICATE WITH BOARD MEMBERS, IF THERE IS A GRIEVANCE THAT HAS BEEN FILED, THEY CANNOT TALK TO THE BOARD ABOUT THAT PARTICULAR GRIEVANCE EXCEPT IN THE HEARING. WE INCLUDED THE DEFINITIONS THAT WE ADDED IN THE OTHER POLICY FOR WHAT CONSTITUTES A GRIEVANCE, AND THE CONCEPT OF A GRIEVANCE COORDINATOR, AS WELL AS PROVIDING A SPECIFIED EMAIL ADDRESS WHERE GRIEVANCES CAN BE SENT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MISS MCGOWAN. ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THIS YEAR IS THIS TIME OF THE YEAR IS SUPER IMPORTANT, SUPER BUSY FOR ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS, ESPECIALLY FOR RICHARDSON ISD. [IV.H. Discussion of Student / District Activities] WE'VE HAD LOTS GOING ON SO THIS IS THE FUN PART OF THE NIGHT. I'M NOT SURE IT'S THIS FUN IS WHAT WE JUST DID JUST A MOMENT AGO, BUT WE WILL CERTAINLY TRY TO HAVE SOME FUN IN THIS. SO WE WERE ALL INCREDIBLY BUSY THIS LAST FEW WEEKS ACTUALLY. SO I'LL JUST KIND OF GO AROUND THE TABLE AND KIND OF TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE EVENTS THAT WE ALL ATTENDED. MR. POTEET, I'M SURE YOU WILL REMEMBER. HE'S JUST KIND OF LOOKING AT ME LIKE, OH.. LIKE, WHAT IS SHE THROWING AT ME HERE? YEAH. SO IS THAT OPEN ENDED? SO I'M GONNA LET ME I'M, I'LL START WITH YOU, BUT HOW ABOUT YOU TELL US ABOUT THE SCHOOL BUS APPRECIATION BREAKFAST? OH, EXCELLENT. OKAY SCHOOL BUS APPRECIATION. SO I KNOW WE RECOGNIZE ONE OF OUR BUS DRIVERS THIS EVENING. YEAH. WHICH WAS GREAT. THAT WAS THAT EVENT, ACTUALLY, AT THEIR OPERATION CENTER WAS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO FOR THE DISTRICT, PROVIDE BREAKFAST, THANKING THE ENTIRE STAFF AFTER THEY'D ALREADY DONE THE MORNING THE MORNING WORK, AND IT WAS GREAT. WE GOT TO WALK AROUND, GOT TO MEET A BUNCH OF OUR DRIVERS AND THEIR SUPERVISORS, WHICH WAS, WHICH WAS FUN. AND, AND YOU JUST I THINK ONE OF THE METRICS THAT WAS PUT OUT NOT LONG AGO WAS THAT WE AVERAGED, I THINK, OVER 1 MILLION MILES A SCHOOL YEAR OF DRIVING [02:20:07] WITH THE BUSSES. AND THAT KIND OF PUTS IT INTO CONTEXT OF WHAT THEY'RE DOING FOR THIS DISTRICT AND, AND HOW SAFELY THEY'RE DOING IT, AND EFFECTIVELY. SO SO IT WAS A GREAT WAY TO TO PARTICIPATE AND CELEBRATE THEM. SO. AND SO IT ALSO LOOKS LIKE YOU AND I ACTUALLY WANTED TO ATTEND THIS EVENT, BUT I COULD NOT. BRIGHT STARS. YES OKAY. THAT WAS JUST YESTERDAY. SO YEAH. NO THAT WAS THAT WAS OUTSTANDING. SO THAT GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY I THINK THIS WAS THE SECOND YEAR THAT WE'VE DONE THIS. AND AND IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR KIND OF KIND OF LIKE THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS MODEL. BUT ALL FOUR OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS PARTICIPATED. WE WERE OVER AT RHS, OUT ON THE, OUT ON THE FIELD THERE, AND IT WAS JUST GREAT TO SEE ALL OF THE PARTNERS FROM EACH OF THE SCHOOLS THAT WORKED WITH ALL OF OUR STUDENTS WALK THEM THROUGH. I MEAN, WE HAD ALL SORTS OF FROM CARNIVAL TYPE ACTIVITIES TO ACTUAL SPRINT RELAYS AND HAD AN OPENING CEREMONY AND THEN FINISHED UP WITH A LUNCHEON. AND IT WAS JUST GREAT TO RECOGNIZE EVERYBODY THAT WORKS WITH THOSE STUDENTS WITHIN RISD AND SEEING THEM CELEBRATE IT. AND JUST, I MEAN, THE THE, THE LAUGHTER AND THE THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM THAT THEY HAD PARTICIPATING IN IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE. SO I THINK WE'LL SEE SOME, SOME SOME VIDEOS AND STUFF PUT UP ON THE ISD WEBSITE, BUT I HOPE EVERYBODY CAN SEE THAT IT WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY. SO. WELL. THANK YOU. I'VE GOT QUITE A FEW, BUT I'M GONNA MOVE ON TO MISS MCGOWAN, WHO WAS ACTUALLY A REP FOR US. I KNOW I SAW YOU ON HERE. YOU WERE THE AMBASSADOR, THE SPEAKER FOR THE AMBASSADOR? YEAH. THE AMBASSADORS. YO SPOKE ON BEHALF OF MEMBER OF THE PANEL OF. YES. OKAY. SORRY, GUYS. IT'S BEEN A LONG TWO WEEKS. WE'VE BEEN AWAY FROM EACH OTHER FOR QUITE TOO LONG. YEAH. THAT WAS IT WAS REALLY COOL TO BE WITH SOME OF THE, LIKE, FORMER TRUSTEES AND SEE THE WORK THAT THEY'RE STILL DOING AND THE INVOLVEMENT THEY ARE STILL, YOU KNOW, DOING AND VOLUNTEER SERVICE, LIKE CONTRIBUTING TO THE COMMUNITY AND COMING TO HANG OUT WITH FUTURE LEADERS FOR RISD. AND THEY JUST HAD SO MUCH INSIGHT TO SHARE. IT WAS IT WAS JUST GOOD TO BE THERE AND LISTEN TO THAT AND TAKE NOTE FOR SOME THINGS THAT I COULD EVEN USE IN MY LIFE. AND THEN TO SEE JUST FUTURE LEADERSHIP IN OUR DISTRICT AND KNOW THAT THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT STILL ARE REALLY, TRULY VESTED IN THE LIVES OF OUR TEACHERS AND OUR KIDS. IT'S IT'S GREAT. SO THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME GO. AND TO ACTUALLY SEE THE AMBASSADORS HERE TONIGHT BEING RECOGNIZED. SO YEAH. THERE YOU GO, THERE YOU GO. AND MS. RENTERÍA, YOU WERE SUPER BUSY. SO YOU CAN ALMOST PICK FROM ONE OF SEVERAL THINGS THAT HAPPENED. YOU ACTUALLY ATTENDED THE BERKNER TOP TEN LUNCHEON WITH SEVERAL OF US? YES, I DID, THOSE ARE ALWAYS. I MEAN, THIS TIME OF YEAR IS SO AMAZING. THOSE ARE ALWAYS MY FAVORITE BECAUSE YOU SEE HOW HARD THESE STUDENTS WORK, WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THEIR ENTIRE EDUCATIONAL CAREER RIGHT HERE AT RISD. SO TO SEE THEM COME TOGETHER BE THERE WITH THEIR PARENTS, WE HAVE SUPPORTED THEM THROUGH ALL OF THIS. BUT ESPECIALLY AS WE TALK ABOUT TEACHERS, THEY GET TO PICK ONE JUST ONE INFLUENTIAL. I'M SURE THEY HAD MANY, BUT THEY PICK ONE TEACHER THAT THEY KIND OF HONOR THAT DAY AT THE LUNCHEON. SO IT'S WONDERFUL TO ALSO HEAR THE STORIES AND TO SEE THE IMPACT THAT IT'S MADE. SO AND TO CELEBRATE THESE BRILLIANT STUDENTS. SO IT WAS IT WAS WONDERFUL. AND YOU ALSO REPRESENTED THE BOARD AT THE ROCK. SO THE ADMIN BREAKFAST. YES. THAT WAS AWESOME TOO. AGAIN, JUST KIND OF LIKE THE WHEN WE HONORED THE BUS DRIVERS, MR. POTEET AND I WERE THERE. BUT TO BE AT THE ROCK THAT WAS AWESOME, BECAUSE, YOU SEE YOU KNOW, THESE, THESE PARTICULAR EMPLOYEES THAT WE WERE HONORING THAT DAY. I MEAN, THEY THEY JUST MAKE THE THEY MAKE EVERYTHING RUN, RIGHT? THEY ARE THE CORE OF WHAT MAKES EVERYTHING RUN SO SMOOTHLY. SO IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE THAT, ESPECIALLY TO BE THERE AND CELEBRATE OUR OWN BOARD MANAGER, MISS VIRI GUTIERREZ. SO WE GET TO SHE DOES AN AMAZING, AMAZING JOB. SHE DOES, AND SHE'S AMAZING. SO TO SEE ALL THE REPLICAS OF VIRI GUTIERREZ. RIGHT. YOU SEE THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE DISTRICT, IT WAS WONDERFUL TO BE THERE AS WELL. SO. YES. THANK YOU. MR. EAGER. PEARCE LEARNING COMMUNITY, FINE ARTS. IT WAS A. YEAH. WE HAD A CHANCE TO CELEBRATE THE FINE ARTS AT PEARCE AND THE OPENING OF THEIR NEW OPPORTUNITY. I MEAN, THEIR NEW AUDITORIUM AND GETTING A CHANCE TO SEE THAT. AND IT'S. IT IS IT'S EXCITING. IT IS EXCITING. AND JUST SEEING THE TALENT OF OUR KIDS AND YOU KNOW, IT IS REALLY IMPRESSIVE. [02:25:05] SO IT WAS EXCITING TO SEE THE OPENING OF THAT NEW AUDITORIUM, SEEING SOME OF THE ARTWORK AND SEEING THE PRESENTATIONS AND SOME OF THE ORCHESTRAS AND THE SINGING AND DANCING. IT JUST YOU KNOW, FINE ARTS MAKES SUCH AN IMPACT ON OUR KIDS. IT, YOU KNOW, YOU TALK ABOUT FULL, WELL-ROUNDED KIDS AND JUST SEEING THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING IN OUR DISTRICT IS WE SHOULD ALL BE VERY PROUD OF WHAT'S HAPPENING. AND IT'S JUST ONE OF MANY, MANY THINGS THAT WE'RE GETTING. RIGHT. SO IT WAS EXCITING TO BE THERE. I WAS GRATEFUL TO REPRESENT THE BOARD THERE. SO MR. EAGER THIS ONE, I AM JUST SUPER EXCITED TO HEAR ABOUT YOU INSTALLED THE RHS PTA INCOMING BOARD. YES I DID. TELL ME WHAT YOU DID. CEREAL, CANDY? NO. NO, I DIDN'T GO TO THAT EXTENT. I KNOW THAT SOME PEOPLE PRIOR MAY HAVE DONE SOME MORE ELABORATE INSTALLATION. I WAS I WAS THERE AND HAD THE HONOR OF WELCOMING IN THE NEW BOARD OF RHS, PTA, AND AS I SAID AT THE COUNCIL THIS MORNING THAT THE PTA GROUPS ARE, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE THE ENGINE THAT HELPS DRIVE A LOT OF A LOT SO MUCH WORK THAT'S DONE AT THE LOCAL CAMPUSES AND, AND JUST THE THOUSANDS OF HOURS OF VOLUNTEER TIME THAT'S PUT IN. AND SO IT WAS THE NEXT BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, YOU ALWAYS HEAR THIS, YOU KNOW, THERE'S ALWAYS THAT GROUP AND YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT IT, YOU KNOW, IS SOMEBODY GOING TO COME BEHIND, IS SOMEBODY GOING TO STEP UP. AND THEY'RE JUST YEAR AFTER YEAR, THERE'S ANOTHER GROUP OF PARENTS THAT STEP UP. AND THIS WAS JUST THE NEXT GROUP THAT WERE NEXT IN LINE. SO SO I WAS EXCITED TO BE THERE TO HELP BRING THEM IN. WELL, I APPRECIATE YOU DOING THAT. THAT'S ALWAYS A REALLY TOUGH, TOUGH ONE TO DO. JUST TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER SOME CREATIVE THINGS TO INSTALL THE INCOMING BOARD FOR THE PTA. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REPRESENTING US. MEGAN, DID YOU WANT TO TELL US ABOUT SOME THINGS I DID? I DO WANT TO GIVE JUST A LITTLE SHOUT OUT. I'VE KIND OF BEEN WAITING FOR THE RIGHT MEETING TO DO IT, AND THIS ONE IS BECAUSE I HAVE NOT BEEN AS ACTIVE AS I SHOULD HAVE BEEN. BUT MY WORK IN SCHOOLS RAMPS UP RIGHT WHEN EVERYBODY ELSE'S DOES IN A SCHOOL, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I DO. BUT I DO WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT. I ALL YEAR LONG HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOLUNTEER IN THE WE READ PROGRAM WHERE YOU GO AND I KNOW YOU GO AND YOU READ WITH THE STUDENT AT A SCHOOL FOR 30 MINUTES ONCE A WEEK, AND YOU GET TO SPEND TIME WITH THEM DOING THAT. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO DO THAT AT GREENWOOD HILLS AND TO INTERACT WITH THEIR STAFF WITH. THEY HAVE AN AMAZING VOLUNTEER PROGRAM THERE THAT IS SO ORGANIZED AND SO WELL RUN. AND I'VE HEARD TEACHERS ASK BEFORE, LIKE, WHEN'S YOU KNOW, HAVE YOU BEEN IN A CLASSROOM? HAVE YOU DONE THOSE THINGS? AND IT JUST IS ONE OF THE MOST GRATIFYING THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO IS ACTUALLY GET TO WORK WITH THE STUDENTS AND SEE THE GREAT WORK TEACHERS DO, BECAUSE WHEN I WAS READING WITH MY STUDENT, I COULD SEE HOW MUCH SHE LEARNED AND GAINED OVER THE YEARS. SO I WAS INCREDIBLY PROUD AND HAPPY TO DO THAT. THANK YOU. YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT, I REMEMBER I ALWAYS FORGET ABOUT THAT. WE READ BECAUSE I'D LIKE TO DO THAT ONE DAY. WHEN I TELL YOU, YOU WILL FIND NOTHING MORE GRATIFYING THAN ACTUALLY WORKING WITH A STUDENT ON ACADEMICS JUST ONCE A WEEK FOR 30 MINUTES. I HOPE ANYBODY IN THE COMMUNITY LISTENING TO THIS, IT JUST MAKES SUCH A DIFFERENCE. AND IT REMINDS YOU WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO. YEAH, ABSOLUTELY. MISS PACHECO, YOU WERE SUPER BUSY AS WELL. JUST LIKE. YEAH, JUST A LITTLE BIT. SO TELL US ABOUT PTA, WOMEN IN STEM. OH YES, PTA WOMEN IN STEM WAS AMAZING. THERE WERE FOUR AMAZING LEADERS THAT WERE INVITED TO SPEAK, AS WELL AS OUR ARCHITECTURAL TEACHER FROM RHS WHO BROUGHT TWO OF HER STUDENTS, HER NOW SENIOR STUDENTS WHO WERE GRADUATING, AND THEY JUST PRESENTED THE PROGRAM, YOU KNOW, THE LANDSCAPING AND THE DIFFERENT PLANTS THAT THEY HAVE FOR IHS PATIO. I THINK IT'S IS IT A PATIO? OKAY. AND THE CHANGES THEY'VE MADE, THE DRAWINGS THAT THEY HAVE FOR THE FUTURE, THE SENSORY GARDEN THAT THEY'RE CREATING THEY WERE SO WELL SPOKEN ABOUT THE PROJECT. LIKE THEY KNEW THE INS AND OUTS ABOUT IT. THEY WEREN'T TOO SHY, LIKE, OH, I DON'T REMEMBER THIS. NOTHING LIKE THAT WAS HAPPENING. SUPER PROFESSIONAL. VERY ENCOURAGING TO SEE THAT OUR PROGRAMING IS WORKING FOR OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN SOMETHING LIKE THAT. AND IT WAS ALSO WONDERFUL TO SEE STRONG LEADERS FROM OUR COMMUNITY BEING PRESENT THERE, SHARING THEIR EXPERIENCES AND WILLING TO JUST SPEND [02:30:05] TIME, SPEND TIME WITH US AS LEADERS, OUR TEACHERS, AND SPEND TIME WITH OUR STUDENTS. YOU KNOW, WE JUST NEED TO INVITE THEM AND BRING THEM IN. IT WAS WONDERFUL. WOW. THANKS. I WANTED TO ATTEND THAT TOO, AND I WASN'T ABLE TO MAKE IT THE DIALOG INSTITUTE. I THINK YOU AND MS. RENTERÍA WERE ABLE TO ATTEND THAT. THE DIALOG INSTITUTE, THE ART AWARDS. OH, YES. OKAY. ART AWARDS. THANK YOU. YES. SO THEY, THIS IS THEIR FIRST ANNUAL ART AWARD PRESENTATIONS FOR STUDENTS HERE IN TEXAS IN THE DFW AREA. AND IT WAS AMAZING BECAUSE ALSO DOCTOR GIVENS WAS THERE AND WE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME LOOKING AT THE VERY NICE ART THAT THEY HAD ABOUT WHAT BINDS US TOGETHER AS HUMANS. RIGHT. AND JUST DIFFERENT TYPES OF ART. THEY CELEBRATED VIDEO PHOTOGRAPHY AND LIKE ART, LIKE ACTUAL, YOU KNOW, CANVAS OR THINGS LIKE PAINTINGS. AND I WASN'T AWARE. I JUST THOUGHT, YOU KNOW, THEY WERE GOING TO JUST PRESENT THE AWARDS AND THE KIDS WERE LIKE, FIRST PLACE, SECOND PLACE, THIRD PLACE. BUT NO, THESE THIS WENT ALL OUT. THEY GOT AWARDED, THEY GOT MONEY. THEY GOT A CERTIFICATE. I MEAN, IT WAS JUST AMAZING. FIRST PLACE WINNER. GOT LOTS OF MONEY. I THINK IT WAS GREAT. IT WAS JUST SO NICE TO SEE JUST A VARIETY OF STUDENTS, A VARIETY OF PERSONALITIES JUST WINNING. AND, YOU KNOW, WE CELEBRATED TWO OF OUR STUDENTS BERGNER, STUDENT AND A PEER STUDENT WHO DID WIN AWARDS. AND THEY WERE SURPRISED. SO ALL OF THEM WERE THERE AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE GOING TO WIN UNTIL THEY GOT NAMED. SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY COOL. WOW. PERFECT. YEAH, WE WERE SUPER BUSY. I THINK EVERYBODY HAD FOUR AND FIVE THINGS THAT WAS GOING ON IN THE MONTH OF MAY. IT WAS EXTREMELY BUSY. I STARTED A NEW CAREER. GO FIGURE. I'M PLAYING BASKETBALL NOW, SO YEAH, RIGHT. YEAH, YOU'VE GOT THE HEIGHT. BUT I WILL TELL YOU, I WILL NOT QUIT MY DAY JOB. BUT I DID HAVE FUN SUPPORTING THE PTA WITH AT THE HARLAN'S GAME. SO I PLAYED COACH BRANUM OVER HERE WAS REALLY HARD ON US, BUT WE HAD A GOOD TIME. DID WE WIN? NO. OH, WE DIDN'T WIN. WE DIDN'T WIN. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. AND THEN I ALSO HAD A CHANCE TO ATTEND THE RELC MURDER MYSTERY. SO THAT WAS PRETTY COOL AS WELL. THAT'S ALWAYS REALLY FUN EVERY YEAR. SO THAT WAS REALLY GOOD. I HAD A GOOD TIME AT THAT. DEBBIE AND I HAD A CHANCE TO PARTNER WITH OUR CITY THE CITY OF RICHARDSON. AND SO WE WENT DOWN TO D.C. WE ACTUALLY JUST GOT BACK YESTERDAY. WE LEFT ON SUNDAY. SO WE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT SOME OF OUR LEGISLATIVE FRIENDS AND CONGRESSMEN AND HEAR THEIR VOICES, AND THEY HEARD SOME OF OUR VOICES. SO THANK YOU TO LIZ, WHO ACTUALLY ESCORTED US THERE AND HAD FUN WITH US. AND IT WAS A REALLY GOOD TRIP. IT WAS A VERY LONG TRIP. WE WERE BUSY FROM 7 A.M. UNTIL REALLY LATE AT NIGHT. SO IT WAS VERY, VERY LONG DAYS. SO BUT WE WERE ABLE TO SHOW OUR FACES, HAVE SOME OF OUR LEGISLATORS SEE WHO WE ARE. AND SO THAT THAT WAS PRETTY GOOD. I HAD A I HAD A GOOD TIME. ANYBODY ELSE BEFORE WE GO UPSTAIRS? IT'S NOT OVER YET. ALL RIGHT. ALL RIGHT. SO I'D LIKE TO THANK THE STAFF, EVERYONE THAT STAYED THIS LATE. THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. THANK OUR COMMUNITY FOR COMING OUT, LISTENING TO US TONIGHT. WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU. YES YES YES YES YES YES. AND IT IS NOW 8:46 P.M.. [V. CLOSED MEETING] AND THE BOARD WILL NOW CONVENE TO A CLOSED SESSION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TEXAS OPEN MEETINGS ACT, TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE, SECTION 551.071 CONSULTATION WITH ATTORNEY AND SECTION 551.074 PERSONNEL MATTERS AND DUTIES OF PUBLIC OFFICER. AND WE WILL SEE EACH OTHER UPSTAIRS. GOOD NIGHT, GOOD NIGHT. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
